Aah, the FPB. Struggling to think of a hyperbolic metaphor to describe how out of their depth they are... Again. Pretty soon they'll be demanding every SA citizen pay an annual fee to them and submit their thoughts for classification.
 
Rather regulate the government, that's where the real problems are.

The Film and Publications Board is an utter waste of time and resources: they do not have the legal framework nor the moral fibre nor the standing to do anything meaningful about the content distributed in South Africa. The only meaningful way out of irrelevance is for them to get involved in political censorship and bullying citizens in general.

"online content distributors" ... I'm running some kind of peer to peer software. Not sure what it does, but I know it distributes content online.

They can enforce content regulations for sites linked to public SA companies because the site owners can be identified. However if the site is hosted outside of SA, of which many are, then that gets trickier.
 
Fscking morons. They tried a similar thing in the US. They tried to pass other internet censorship regulations along with it.

You know what works best? Raise your children properly and trust that they will not do stupid things because of morals and lessons you have taught them.

Inviting the FSB over for some tea and hope to put together some mutually beneficial censorship and believing that course is not going to result in being bitten

Rather deal with the impermissibly broad and vague provisions of the statute and actually launch a collateral challenge when necessary

- of course the fact that Naspers is in bed with the FPB makes it a little bit more complicated, but shouldn't

Read the section and the regulations if enforceable EVERY SINGLE person who allows anybody else to use their smartphone, tablet, PC or any sort of device connecting to the Internet or who has a web presence (hosting) would be obligated to register

Indeed, and the same sort of thinking existed in the earlier business licensing bill which has been sent into retreat.

But this is why ISPA adopting the approach which they are is folly, and coming as it is after the ODM issue smells of buttering up to the FSBs embedded clan over at the Family Policy Institute who just got an odd costs order against ICASA and whose affiliates have received money from Naspers, demonstrates an approach that invites and relishes regulatory capture.
