New LCD

Rectron does AOpen, Gigabyte and Polyview

Another LCD I don't see on the list here is the Hyundai ImageQuest L90D+ (19" 8ms - actually a Samsung panel) - around R4k from Cyberdyne Systems. I'm quite happy with mine. Read a lot of reviews before hand, good all round - and it was the best deal at the time on 8ms LCD's.

Hmmm ... so I can't get my Samsung there :/ So if I go for the Gigabye that was mentioned (8ms, 4500:1), what model is that so I can check it on the web? Are Gigabyte an alright make - quality wise as well? Where do you read reviews online for monitors?

Sorry about the questions ;)

Gigabyte® 1703BPI 17" Silver LCD - 1280x1024 SXGA - 8ms Response, 2W Speakers, 260cd/m2 Brightness, 450:1 Contrast, D-Sub Connection

I've seen a few Gigabytes in action - not bad at all. Might look a bit cheaper (plasticky) than some of the other brands though. I can't seem to find a review on that model though...

i bought acer lcd 15" from incredible connection and found 1 dead pixel.
went back to incredible conn and had it replaced with new one. then at home i found another 1 dead pixel from the lcd.
went back to incredible conn and had it replaced it again. this time i had it tested with the techie there.
then i had no problem.

so i don't want to believe that it is a general policy to replace it with 6 or more dead pixels.

BTW acer lcd sucks. buy samsung or lg.

Except that my LG has a dead pixel, but won't replace it! Otherwise I am really happy with it - great image!

Oh, I might also add - great construction. My LG 17" LCD is quite 'heavy' - not comparable to a CRT, but not at all like plastic! It has a good weight and durable construction. Won't have a problem going to LANs and such...

whatever you do DO NOT get a JETWAY/Avidia i tried one of those, they are slut crap.

Alright - So I liked the Siemens, the Samsung and the Gigabyte® 1703BPI that was mentioned. I'm more than likely going with the Gigabyte, as it seems alot better speced than the other two - and available to me at dealer price!

Speaking of that - does anyone on the forum have access to the price list, and are able to tell me what the dealer price of this particular unit is? How about a 128MB flashdisc drive? I'm swopping for a R2000 DVD player, and need the equivilant goods. If you have access to Rectron pricing, please PM me with that model price.

Thanks

Personaly i'll go for any 8ms 19" Samsung/LG/Philips/Viewsonic, the cheapest you can get.

And yea, I got my 19" 8ms Philips 190B6CB/00 for R3500 from storgate :D

If I was you I'd save the money and try to pic up a 8ms 17" for R2500

They used too but they have expanded their stock too a much much larger range.

Been doing a lot of research this weekend, and it basically comes down to two models:

Samsung SyncMaster 913 N
Futjisto Siemens ScaleoView T19-2

Now each have their own individual pro's and cons, but personally i would prefer the Samsung, although it is a grand more.
But now I'm stuck with one problem: getting the actual screen... Makro and Incredible Corruption are out of stock, and only have lesser models, and Sahara doesn't stock the Samsung i want...

What to do...

You might want to read this review about the Samsung before you buy it...

Carefull, I have been on the look out for 17" LCD screen aswell. I went through all the suppliers. The samsung one (from sahara) looks promising at first, 3 yr warrantee and looks great however it has a 25ms delay. So that was out of the question.

For me primary features were warrantee. The best screen I could find was the Accer models, 3yr warrantee plus 8ms delay ... You can find them from Axis

One thing to keep in mind is that with an LCD, you always want to run it in its native resolution, otherwise the image looks very fuzzy. So, for one that is 1600x1200, if used for gaming, that resolution could put a serious strain on a graphics card. To maintain that high a resolution, it might mean that the frame rate has to go real low on newer games. So, for gaming the 1240x1024 is actually better most of the time in my opinion.
