New LCD

One thing to keep in mind is that with an LCD, you always want to run it in its native resolution, otherwise the image looks very fuzzy. So, for one that is 1600x1200, if used for gaming, that resolution could put a serious strain on a graphics card. To maintain that high a resolution, it might mean that the frame rate has to go real low on newer games. So, for gaming the 1240x1024 is actually better most of the time in my opinion.
Hi GKM

I ran into this problem with my new LCD. Is there no way of overcoming this problem? I want to use bigger text, but without the fuzzy text outline...

Unfortunately this is an inherent weakness of LCD screens. Some LCD's handle the "fuzziness" better than others but none really match CRT's for quality when not running at their native resolution. The only solution I can think of is to set the Windows font larger in your display settings.

Yes, for an LCD, the resolution is fixed. Any resolution other than the native one is done via interpolating pixels. So, if it would have had a white pixel and a black pixel next to each other, the pixel displays gray, which is not so nice.

A CRT can just change the electron beam to paint a different resolution on the screen.

As Perdition says, you can change to font size in the Appearance tab of the screen settings. But, I have seen some programs that gets confused when one does that, with only parts of text showing etc.

Yea ... hehe.

Is there anything good besides space saving? ;)

How is Gigabyte in the monitor ranks?

I'm telling you guys - Hyundai L90D+

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/display/20050215/lcd-01.html

"To our great surprise, the L90D+'s color rendering is excellent. Marketed as a gamer's monitor, the L90D+ has color fidelity that matches the best CRT monitors!"

And it even nabbed the Editors choice award :)

But besides all of that - I can tell you from first hand experience - it rocks!

To impress your friends with your good taste. :)

Seriously, I also find it much nicer on the eyes.

ill never go back to CRT after moving to LCD. I can actually work through the night without suffering from sore and red eyes

jjtoymachine i have to agree 100% my eyes are taking far less strain on this LCD than on my CRT

Also in the market for one of these, Makro have a 17" Fijitsu Siemans for R1998 (with or without speakers) and incredible have an Acer 17" R1,999.95 (with speakers).

Thoughts, opinions?

Hi Noswal

I bought the FS from Makro (both the 17'' and 19'') and was not happy. Returned them both a few days later. Then got a 19'' LG CRT and 17'' Viewsonic...much better. I hope this helps.
