New local system shares content with Internet users

great news for better local access to content - however i doubt with that hardware config they'd have 13 terrabytes of diskspace even if they were running a striped set.

TENET has 180mbit International bandwidth??? hmmmm intriguing....

Sounds like a cool system, will take a look and abuse it later maybe...

TENET has all the cool toys - and unfortunately they not allowed to share most of it with us :( but the mirror is definitely a great service - big up to them :D

Isn't this the same crap avaliable on ftp.saix.net?

Hi All,

I can confirm that mirror.ac.za is indeed 13 terabytes of active space, made up of 4 ZFS pools and the base UFS internal stripe.

As stated in the original article, people who need additional opensource software mirrored that is of interest to the general community can contact me on [email protected].

With regards to the question about the same stuff on ftp.saix.net, no, ftp.saix.net hosts far far less content due to disk space constraints, there is some duplication, but not terribly much.

If anyone finds any problems with the mirror as well, please dont hesitate to contact me.

So what, exactly, is TENET's view on copyright infringement? :D

Good job, guys!

Not with you, everything looks to be open source.
I think he is hoping that they might take suggestions for some 'other' types of content to be mirrored :D

Sorry Dean - not going to happen. TENET is accountable to some of the most copyright aware institutions in SA.
