I got my first mac yesterday, the 15 inch macbook pro. Everything works perfectly, but I need to import my Windows Outlook .pst mail file to the new Mac. What is the easiest, painless way of going about doing this?

Also, what is the best mail client to use? The built-in email client looks fine, but was wondering what experienced mac users like to use? Also, is it a mission to change mail clients again? Is there one standard for email files in mac, and can one easily switch between email clients?

Thanks a million

O2M use it...

Mail rocks if you don't need exchange support

dont think u read his mail properly, he has a .pst file.....which o2m cant do squat with...

The easiest way is what vertigo mentioned, install o2m on the machine that has outlook and ur mail on it, then run it. simple

If you dont have that machine......import ur .pst to a machine with outlook repeat process above.

I loathe mac mail almost as much as twitter, i prefer using entourage and thats gotta tell u something.... but mac mail is free, and u can use open office for all ms office related stuff.

If u dont feel like paying the whopping 10 dollars, then u can use thunderbird to import ur mail, then copy that thunderbird folder to the mac, and import the mail from thunderbird into mac mail with the import option. But i really would use o2m...

Ur contacts/calendars might screw up in o2m adn thunderbird. there are numerous ways to get round this, if u have this problem post here again

Cool, thanks guys. I still have my dinosaur of a machine running windows with outlook, so o2m sounds like a good plan. I think I can part with $10. Not too worried about calendar and contacts, I can import those seperately, or use my phone to sync. I just need my emails.

Open office I will definitely install. I am still debating whether to use bootcamp to install XP. I don't think I will need it again, not after spending last night playing around on OS X.

To be honest, I was a little anxious before getting the Mac, as I have never used a Mac before. But my word, I couldn't believe how easy and intuitive the operating system is. Mac users had been spoiled rotten. I just realised last night how horribly complicated Windows really is.

Give bootcamp a shot, the nice thing if u dont like it just remove it...voila!!!
or give VM ware a chance, its really convenient

Lol!

I really like mac mail... i do a lot of support for thunderbird and it really irritates me,entourage as well, they just seem overly complex me. but then again, i don't do anything fancy with my mail. simple read and compose that's it. And mail suits that roll perfectly.
