While I agree that the slower SSD sucks, don't get me wrong. I honestly don't think it will be a conceivable difference for the folks that will be buying this laptop en masse. YT tech reviewers blow everything out of proportion for clicks. I saw one video where there was a 5 second difference in some video export (M1 was faster probably due to SSD speed) - is that such a big deal? I'd still stick with the base model if I was in the market tbh

Also does RAM 16GB vs 24 GB make a difference? (dialy driver, document processing, video editing (home videos, nothing professional) and watching streaming, etc)
Don’t know what the launch price was, but throughout the 2nd half of last year I saw it advertised for R16,999 many times. On special offer though, but still. Then in 2022 it crept up to R17,999 and again to R18,999 where it is right now.
I'd wait for the official pricing because that looks way out of kilter...
8/10 Core, 16GB RAM and 512GB Storage is only R2,000 less than the 14" Pro which comes with all the ports, a significantly better screen, better CPU and GPU. Makes no sense...

I'd say sweet spot is 8-8 or 8-10 chip, 512gb and 16gb ram. Not sure why people bother with 8gb these days.
For those jobs, even 8Gb will be enough. 24Gb would be overkill

Yes, but it's obviously erroneous to compare sale prices to launch prices, M2 itself should also be discounted in due time, and my response was to the 8k markup comment, which it is not.

Is the 14" M2 chip?
The base M1 Pro (8/14 Core) is still a significantly better chip than this entry level M2 chip.
