New Macbook Pro!!

As soon as apple offer 1680x1050 res. on the 15" they'll have my order. The new ones are awesome - fiddled with one in the shop this morning.... nice!

I must say they are a bit cheaper on the Macboop pro but did not have one in store when I asked. I was looking for the 15" base model with a 512mb upgrade. When they did not have I look on the net for a registerd dealer and found digicape. They had 2 in stock but did not have the extra 512MB memory so I took it. I am glad I did not take the extra 512MB because as you guys say rather get the 1GB stick and then later update to another 1GB stick.

I got the Core Duo proc and not the new Core 2 Duo, as far as I know they are not availible as yet and if you can get them its a nice big price. I am very happy with my purchase.

Thanks for the help and info so far guys

I'm sure there are generic DIMMS that will work just fine in the MBP? I wasn't prepared to pay R1700 for a 512MB dimm for my HP notebook, so I took a chance and paid R1000 for a Corsair Valueselect 1GB dimm. Promply bought another one :-)

The MacBook Pro uses 667 MHz, PC2-5300 double data rate (DDR2), synchronous dynamic random-access memory (SDRAM)

This is whats in the MBP

I always like to ask questions and research before spending megabucks. If I can't go in there and ask a few things without feeling uncomfortable, I'd rather pop down to Digicape or the Waterfront. They are quite chatty in those places. I went into Project 3 yesterday and they are really a sour lot. I felt like I needed to take a ticket in order to get some answers.

It's a shame when crap like that happens.

It's your money - spend it where you feel comfortable :)

Good luck with the 17"... but going by ipod shuffle pricing... Core has set the USD/ZAR exchange rate at 11.2. So your machine's going to cost R31,000!

PS... iMac's, Mini's, MacBook's and MacBook Pro's all use the same laptop memory... i.e S0-DIMMS not desktop DIMM's. I've also heard that the logic boards will also accept DDR2-533 and DDR2-800, but haven't seen it myself.

A little off topic, but ... When importing from the UK, do we have to work out the price with or without their VAT? With VAT, it comes to R13xx, which is very close to the R17xx locally ... still worth it then?
If you're shipping it straight out of the country no vat.

95% of my online purchases are from the US where there's never any sales tax if you do it right :)
