New Mahindra Thar

I'm still surprised Mahindra SA has not brought this to SA (yet). It was "on the cards" for years.
I saw one this week. Almost had an accident. I have been excited about his car since we saw them in India.

Will have to hunt this car out, probably someone who lives in my hood.

Jeep-inspired Mahindra Thar Roxx gains new Star Edition

Mahindra has introduced a special version of its Jeep-inspired Thar Roxx, which we expect could make its way to South Africa in the future.

Mahindra has announced a special version of the Thar Roxx, a model which, as we reported in our December 2025-issue Cars for 2026 feature, we suspect could make its way to South Africa in the future. Positioned at the top of the lineup, the Star Edition – seen here dressed in new ‘Citrine Yellow’ paintwork – features a piano black finish for the front grille and alloy wheels.

Stepping inside, the Star Edition ditches the standard light-coloured upholstery in favour of black synthetic leather, replete with suede accents. The facia features white contrast stitching, while the centre console gains carbon-look finishes.

For the drivetrain, Mahindra decided the Star Edition will be exclusively rear-wheel drive. However, two engine options are on offer. The latter includes the Indian automaker’s 2.2-litre, four-cylinder turbodiesel and 2.0-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol. The oil-burner is available in two states of tune, producing 112 kW/330 N.m when equipped with a six-speed manual transmission and 129 kW/370 N.m in six-speed automatic models. Exclusively coupled with a six-speed automatic gearbox, the petrol unit churns out 130 kW and 380 N.m of torque, the latter available from 1 750 r/min.
