New Mahindra Thar

It looks the part but think it it underpowered. Consider a preloved Wrangler for same price ..

Organized trade in today with Mahindra in Goodwood. Finance approved. Now waiting for stock :(

Me wife said she likes it. Suits us perfectly

Just a couple of cons but not deal breakers for me :
1) Its a soft top so no leaving stuff in the car at the mall.
3) Hard top has to be made for this still. Mahindra can not supply the car with it according to the dealer.
2) Lacks safety features like airbags.

Life style. I do a lot of kayak fishing and camping.I have never really been a big off-roader since I never owned a 4x4.
Closest I got to off-roading was getting stuck a couple of times with my car on farms where I fished for carp.

Just one thing that scares me. The soft top.... I still have time to finally my up my mind since Mahindra only gets stock in a week or 2.

That would be a BIG no for me. No Hardtop , no sale.

I was interested before. Just made the thread to see what other people think about it.
Saw on the 4x4Community forum that all Jeep owners are bad mouthing the Thar. Felt their view where a bit skew.

They would either buy an old jeep(9 years old with a lot of km's on the clock) or compare it to a Wrangler which costs R300+k more.

It 'looks' capable, I'm sure we'll see some offroad tests soon.

My brothers mate had on one of those little Lada 4x4's back in the day and that thing was quite impressive offroad so you never know.

Agreed

I will hold on until I see those reviews... Also will be interesting to see if aftermarket parts start arriving for it
 
It's been around since 2010, why are you guys waiting for reviews?
 
I recon it's going to be very heavy on fuel and also not very nice to drive ie: cabin noise, a very low cruising speed and not stable on the road.
