Besides the is there a hatch cheaper than the polo that's comes in a 6 speed? The SO has a work Vivo Comfortline that is a 6 speed auto, and I enjoy having the extra gear. Anything else the segment have that even in a manual?
Yep I remember I had a courtesy Hyundai i10 for 2 weeks in the early 2010's that was a 1.4l 6 speed manual. The 6th gear was for highway driving only when cruising because the car could not stay in it long driving at slower speeds. The current Vivo is the Polo Mk 5 that came out in SA in 2010 (2009 in Europe). Things were very different then WRT to stick shift trannies.
On cars of this nature the 6th gear is just there as a long gear to improve economy.
Back in 2010s there were a number of B-segment hatches that had a 6 speed stick shift.

Maybe it was a 1.0l. Can't remember exactly (wasn't my car), but it was too weak for 6 gears.I am only seeing 1.0 and 1.2 i10s from the early 2010s
did the current 1 completely fail?Need a new power steering motor, ETA is 6 weeks. One of the cons of cars not made in SA or India lol.

WHAT'S THE VERDICT?
“At nearly a decade old the 2 is beyond the pension threshold... and minor updates in 2023 haven’t hidden that neglect”
The Mazda 2 is a very rounded car, and the fact it’s still here is a credit to a strong original design. The cabin is sensibly laid out and bucks that trend of sticking every function in the third sub-menu of a touchscreen; plus the handling is fabulous too.
It’s a pity the engine has the gusto of an empty crisp packet compared to the turbocharged units you’ll get in most rivals. And as much as we’d like to say ‘hurrah for having to wring a car’s neck for once’, to a great many folk, this will not be a selling point. You want a supermini to make your life easier, and having to manically downshift to keep pace with traffic is not what you need on a long journey.
And at nearly a decade old the 2 is beyond the pension threshold, in car terms. The limited tech is just one area that should’ve been refreshed and minor updates in 2023 haven’t hidden that neglect. We suspect that’s because it’s on the way out: get one now while you can still proudly claim to be defending one of the last bastions of natural aspiration.

Did they revise the replacement parts to make it less of an issue? Coz like what if it happens again out of warranty.No it just got more notchy and you could feel the grinding especially as the car warmed up and in the warmer weather. Still fine to drive, just annoying.
Funnily enough it's a common issue overseas even on the CX-3, there were about 4 technical notices about it in the US. Caused by insufficient grease in a certain part of the steering assembly during manufacturing, becomes more apparent over time.
And the car's still under warranty so zero cost.

Thats an Indian made car for 3rd world countries. UK definitely doesn’t get the S-Presso.
