New Mazda 2

The Mazda 2 on the website looks nice, but it's a dual exhaust sport variant that isn't listed in SA.

Nice misleading advertising but they are sure to put a little disclaimer that models shown might not be SA spec.

That sure does look cool though!

Pricing: Facelifted Mazda2 now on sale in South Africa

The current-generation Mazda2 is getting on in life but in a bid to keep it fresh the Japanese carmaker has given it another facelift.

The revised Mazda2 is now available in South Africa, in Active, Dynamic and Individual flavours, with prices ranging from R307,100 to R398,700 - see full list below story.

As before power comes from a 1.5-litre normally aspirated engine that sends 85kW and 148Nm to the front wheels through either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission.

The subtly enhanced exterior design now offers greater differentiation between the three model grades.

Mazda2 Pricing (September 2023)

1.5 Active manual - R307,100

1.5 Dynamic manual - R335,500

1.5 Dynamic auto - R354,700

1.5 Individual auto - R398,700

Need a new power steering motor, ETA is 6 weeks. One of the cons of cars not made in SA or India lol.

Turns out the part arrived in 4 weeks, problem with the steering solved now.

Did they revise the replacement parts to make it less of an issue? Coz like what if it happens again out of warranty.
Do you know what it would've cost?

They have made some revisions, but the problem is still present even in some 2023 parts. I'd say 95% of the motors are fine though.

It's an insufficient internal lubrication issue in the power steering motor which is made in......*drum roll please*..... China. Yep. I'm surprised too but it's there on the label.

Lol, atleast the warranty is good (and can be extended from 3 years to 5 years for R4k extra) because the invoice says the part costs R23k excluding labour...

4k for 2 years extra cover good. 23k in parts bad.

Mazda is now trying a little harder to convince us the 2 Hybrid isn’t a Yaris in disguise

Previously rebadged Toyota now gets a Mazda-designed front bumper and grille. Looks worse than before

We love Mazda’s design department here at TG.com, so it was a bit of a surprise to see the work it had done on the 2 Hybrid when it first arrived back in December 2021. Well, we say work, it had essentially pulled the Toyota badges off a Yaris and stuck on some of its own. Job done, off to the pub.

It seems as though they’ve now been asked to do some actual designing though, because the 2 Hybrid has been updated with “a new and unique to Mazda front bumper and grille design”. Hold onto your hats folks.

The redesign – which was penned at Mazda’s European Design Studio in Germany – brings a much more Mazda-style face, but we’re not sure it actually works on the angular Yaris. There’s a very slightly retrimmed rear end too that splits the rear lights. Hardly groundbreaking stuff, though.

Still, we’re told that the 2 Hybrid has “proven to be a popular addition to Mazda’s lineup in the UK” and that it will continue to be sold alongside the standard 2 hatch. There will be four trim levels of this updated version available, with cars set to arrive on our shores in March 2024.

Not surprising. They're too expensive. They want BMW pricing but they don't offer the same quality of product.
