Mazda’s smallest offering really is a great little car. It boasts a tremendously built (and designed) cabin, a peppy yet efficient powertrain and, in Hazumi guise, is really well equipped. The facelift has managed to improve upon an already polished package. If you’re thinking about purchasing a compact hatchback or even downsizing, the 2 ought to be considered.

A fresh report out of the United Kingdom suggests Mazda will replace its Mazda2 small hatchback with a rebadged Toyota Yaris by 2023.
According to Autocar, Mazda will introduce a “restyled” version of Toyota’s hybrid-powered Yaris to replace its ageing supermini. The report suggests the new Yaris-based model will be produced by Toyota in France, with the hybrid powertrain helping Mazda to meet its European Union emissions targets.
The Yaris offered in Europe is, of course, distinct from the Asian-spec Yaris available here in South Africa.
“We’re continuing with our multi-solution approach that offers appropriate solutions to match power mix, uniqueness and customer needs in each country and region,” Mazda told Autocar in a statement.

Mazda is poised to offer a version of the new Toyota Yaris Hybrid supermini in Europe within the next two years, potentially as a replacement for the current Mazda 2.
The two Japanese car makers have a long-running technical partnership that includes working on future electric vehicles.
In a presentation to accompany its latest financial results, Mazda outlined how it aims to use its partnerships with other manufacturers to enhance and grow its range. This includes a plan to offer an “OEM-supplied model based on Yaris THS [Toyota Hybrid System]” in Europe within the next two years.

Was looking at a Mazda 2 Individual this week, comes with 185/60/16 inch tyres.
In that size there's only crappy Dunlop Enasave and that often has to be imported because of abhorrent lack stock.
Edit : I contacted Mazda Customer Care via email, and got confirmation from their technical department that fitting 195/55 16 inch is allowed and does not change the warranty on the vehicle.

Mazda 2 gets 113bhp range-topper in 2021 update
Ageing supermini receives efficiency boosts and regains more potent engine option as part of update
Mazda has reintroduced a 113bhp engine to the Mazda 2 as part of a mid-life update for the supermini.
The uprated version of the firm’s 1.5-litre Skyactiv-G petrol engine will join the existing 73bhp and 88bhp models from 1 October, with new trim levels and improved efficiency.
Seven specification levels will be available, with the updated range starting from £16,475 for the SE-L.
All models are equipped with sat-nav, cruise control, Bluetooth and air conditioning as standard, and engines above the 73bhp model feature Mazda’s mild-hybrid system for an e-Skyactiv-G badge.
Sport models gain wireless Apple CarPlay, while the GT Sport adds a choice of a manual or automatic gearbox for the first time, as well as heated front seats, a colour head-up display and a reversing camera.
The new 113bhp engine will be available only for top-of-the-range GT Sport Tech models, starting from £20,845 and mated to a six-speed manual.

Just got back from a short trip with the Mazda 2 Individual Auto and it's simply a great little car.
Interior is lovely, cruise control is very useful on the highway, that 85kw/148nm 1.5L NA engine is decent for the hills and it handles superbly with some 195/55/16 Michelin Primacy 4's.
4 star NCAP/5 star ANCAP, 6 airbags and ESC too. Averaged 5.3L/100 from JHB to Hammanskraal and 6L/100 back (aircon and lots of hills) which is not bad in my opinion considering it's a 6 speed auto.

Should I buy one?
Given it first arrived in 2014, this generation of the Mazda 2 is one of the elder statesmen of the supermini class - and yet it still continues to impress with its unassuming nature. Its replacement, expected to be a badge-engineered Toyota Yaris hybrid, is unlikely to have as much charm.
It doesn’t strive for dynamism, yet avoids being boring to drive. Supermini shoppers looking to stand out from the crowd should at least consider the 115, which doesn’t carry a huge premium over the less powerful engines but delivers greater all-round ability.
There’s no doubt it shows its age in certain areas, though, and keen drivers will likely be swayed by the Ford Fiesta’s sharper handling.
