Anyone tried these or know what quality is like nowadays?

Maybe so, but why & how? Have you tested them?

Mecer is and always has been low quality, cheap garbage. I've used more than enough of their products through the years for me to be able to say that, and I find it very unlikely that things changed with these notebooks.

My first PC was a Mecer, I've still got it and it still works after nearly 10 years, the only parts that died were the CD-ROM and screen, and those after a long time.

My second PC was a Mecer, it was struck by lightning through the internal modem, the memory that was in it is still going strong, as is the HDD, it was all parted out and I can't remember all the components life stories. :p

I don't think they use the highest quality components though.

I would never buy a Mecer laptop, because of international warranty, I doubt they have that, and all the international brands do. It's not like I even have plans to leave the country but somehow that's an issue to me. Should be taken into account by anyone who travels.

It's Mecer, thus it is crap.

Agree - load of horse twaddle. I did some work for the IEC a long time back and we couldn't get the Mecer computers to work with SMC network cards. The weirdest thing. Have had nothing but cr.p with them.

I personally wouldn't buy a laptop with anything but a Pro version of windows and a 3 yr warranty.

How about the HP and Lenovo's? Theyre intel I series laptops are arriving this coming week, bit more expensive but never had trouble with them. And I wouldnt buy a Mecer, if i had to get a laptop id go with Dell or Alienware ( i know theyre made by Dell for any nitpickers out there)

Just bought the W765C this week and was pleasantly surprised with it. One of the easiest setups I ever did.

Screen is nice and bright, looks even better than my way more expensive Toshiba.

Comes with a 2-year guarantee, so I am not too worried.

How come that most of the specs don't include the screen resolution?

It says "HD ready". I guess that tells us something.

It works the same as with the LCD TV's. "HD-Ready" means capable of displaying 720p and "Full HD" means 1080p.

Only laptops with a 17" screen or bigger can display FULL HD.

These laptops comes with a HDMI port, so you can connect it directly to your HDtv as well.

It plays back 720p HD files without any hassles.

This is simply not true.

These are the best quality ever Mecer laptops.

I've held a couple in my hand already, it's def a good build quality, excellent performance and wow the price for these kickass laptops are simply awesome.

I sold a couple already and our our clients says "it's da bomb"

I don't think your statement re. the 17" screen or bigger van display FULL HD is correct.
I have a Dell Studio XPS 1654 with A FULL HD display. The screen is 16" and the lappie also has a BlueRay drive.
The drawback is on small screens the normal print is small, but for video or photo editing it's great

Nice, I'm looking for an Asus laptap.

It's Mecer, thus it is crap.

LOL dude.... most Laptops are just branded, they are actually all pretty much the same.

My Dad got a Meccer and my Sister got an HP, when you look at them they are exactly the same, its just the label that's different.

Some common ODM's where the multi-nationals and even the locals (less choice on spec): Elite, Compal, etc
My father had a Fujitsu Siemens notebook that had a dying battery. Reading the model code on the battery, I realised that it was the same battery as sold in a Mecer @ far cheaper price.

Long and short of it: ODM's design several series and models at different price ranges, and the OEMs select what they want.

I'm getting one of the new Dell Studio laptops from the UK. Very nice: i3-330m, 4GB DDR3, 500GB HDD, HD4570 for £500 = R6000ish. I'm sure they'll be much more when they come to SA, but they look like very nice laptops.
