People who buy those expensive Golfs (R32 i think) are just stupid....I would rather buy a E90 3 Series BMW

They hold their value shockingly well which is what makes them a better buy than most.

Lot of guys who bought Golf 5 GTi's when they came out in 2005 at 250k sold them again for virtually the same money as the prices increased across the market.

But yes all the people who LOOK like they have money are probably the ones who have the least.

Some. not all.

True, excuse the generalisation. However the past amount of debt, ratio of debt to liquidation, and increase in debt assistance in relation with the year on year positive performance of new car sales leaves a bad taste for savings promotion.

2005 is awhile ago, with rising living costs and inflation that amount is technically less in terms of buying power.

I drove the A250 and the 1.8 golf7 in Turkey, that Merc is awesome!! It's definitely the premier hatch at the moment.

GTis hold their value remarkably well, on your first GTi trade in on a new GTi the owner is only paying off another 100-150 000, that's 3000 a month with the latest model GTi every cycle.

This is not a fair statement to make. People buy what they like?love, what they can afford(or service the debt) and what makes them happy. I for one would go for an R32 over an E90 and thats just how I love it.

If I had to spend Merc money on any car I would buy a Merc.

It's a chunk cheaper than BMW. I'm seriously considering this thing. Curious as to the price on the A200, which goes for quite a bit more than the A180 in Oz.

Edit - Oh, there's the prices now :p

Not really cheaper than a BMW?? Especially not the new 1 Series.

Pricelist and arb info as per MBSA salesman

116i 1.6 100kw R 265 500
118i 1.6 125kw R 285 000
125i 2.0 160kw R 336 000(Manual) Auto R354 000.

I this Beemer is still cheaper but the Merc is much nicer and I wouldnt mind to spend more. Very interesting.

You have to be blind to like the new 1 Series. Sorry BMW, you dun goof'd it up.

I suspect the engine differences for the extra 25kw are probably only the head gasket, compressor pulley diameter and ECU programming. Not talking about the trim & standard equipment here.

I agree. I hated it, but it grew on me... and the 125i looks awesome in blue, with the sport kit.

I would still prefer an A250.

Thats one thing I know about Beemer, you grow to love it. I am lucky to see that beauty very early. When the first one series first came out most people hated it but we all know the story in the end.
