New Merc A class is here..

There's no new details on Mercedes' site, other than a small link to some pictures and whatnot. I wonder when they'll be giving out more info.

VW CC and A5 are both much bigger cars. Competitors would be the upcoming A3 sedan and if the make a next gen 1-series coupe with 4 doors.

I must also add to the above, that the next 1-series coupe will probably be called a 2-series... Like the 4 is a 3 coupe and the 6 is a 5 coupe.

Any idea when the A250 will be available for test drive?

This is the first Merc that I've ever considered buying. My choice for my next car was between the G7 GTI and the new Focus ST3... that was until Kbeat put me on the track of the A250, but I'll have to test drive it first and see all the specs, what's included, etc.

Viper if the Golf 7 Tsi is so good looking rather wait for the Gti 7. I think it'll steal your heart. Just forget about the Focus . I think the A250 will come in later around may same time with the Gti 7.

I wouldn't waste time with the ST, it will be worth R250 000 in 2014. Those things drop in value faster than any other hot hatch, even Opels!

I never even bother to go to manufactures websites on new models they never say much. Rather google and check on websites like wheels24, car magazine , iol etc.

I had another thread here a while back where I enquired about the retail values to see how the drop in price compared to a 2010 GTI 6 (my current car) and a Ford ST of the same year. Over 2.5 years, the Ford (surprisingly), only lost R10k more in value than the Golf... and the GTI holds its value very well. After my first year, I basically had the option to sell my GTI for more than I bought it.

I am however now more leaning towards the A250 and GTI 7 (in that order). The GTI will always be a good buy though.

I just hope the DSG will sound just like the Gti 6 or better. I love the sound and I can hear it from miles away. The more I look at the pictures the more I love the Golf 7. I am attending the launch at VW Menlyn on Saturday.

Got some more info for those who are interested (as at 19 Feb):
The new A-class goes on sale on 22 April. There are a few doing the rounds of SA dealerships for test drive (although I can't find a dealership with one yet).
There's a R5,000 (non-refundable) deposit to get on the waiting list. SA is getting 1,000 cars a month (from April) and the waiting list is full until Jan 2014. There are some pre-spec cars which will be available for purchase from the showroom floor in April.

I have a copy of the full options pricelist. Std equipment is pretty adequate but if you want to add luxuries like sport seats/AMG kit/cruise-control/panoramic sunroof expect to add R30,000 to the list price

I watched a video review (Matt Watson) yesterday of the bog standard new A class (not the AMG one in all the pics) and he didn't really give it too much praise (boring drive, slow) and actually chose a Golf 7 over it. I didn't know the diesels have a Renault/Dacia engine. Eish.

Saw that review too. He compares all the popular German hot hatches. It's curious how each has its own standout quality: BMW is fun to drive, Mercedes looks good, Audi is luxurious inside and VW is practical. I'd probably go with the A3 Sportback. Looks good enough for me, is sufficiently practical and is amazing inside.

Doesn't quite look the same as the AMG/Sport ones in all the pics on the internet..

Seen a A250 with AMG kit looks very Korean.
Perhaps they will grow on me but right now meh, not the best new player on the market.

A-class in on the floors at the dealerships. I got inside the A180 Cdi and I am impressed. This car is amazingly beatiful. I didnt get a chance to test drive it but I love it. I saw one guy driving out in an A 250 sport with lots of extras . BMW,Audi and Golf 7 dont stand a chance in terms of beauty against the A-class.
