New Mini-ITX build

1st, make sure the CPU cooler will fit inside the case.
Mini-ITX is for small size.
You sure the PSU is big enough? 600W will be overkill.

Otherwise, nice to be able to spend that amount of moola on a CPU :D

Clearance is good, it's about as tall as a full size PCIe card which fits. I was looking at the 500W model but for R150 bucks extra the 600W seemed worth it and has a better efficiency curve at lower draws.

The NVMe is the one that would offer more performance.
The M.2 and SATA have the same limitation I think.

that board supports m.2 drives with NVME...it really is a nice board. Packs a lot of features into that little space.

Also might buy a few components each month as to not shock my budget too much.

Thinking of getting that Mobo (while it's marked down) and case this month.

Chassis: Maximum CPU Cooler Height 95mm
Coolermaster 212X Height: 158mm

Above specs are from your links so double check. Also check that it does not cover the PCIe slot

If you ever do dump a GPU in there make sure it uses a blower style cooler else you are gonna dump a lot of heat into a very small enclosure which is not good.

Hmm, that's odd. Let me just check again.

He sucks at imperial to metric conversion, he says 3.5".

3.5 x 25.4=89mm according to my calculator

Ah yes, thanks for catching that - makes sense.

I may just go with a water cooling solution then, quite pricey though.

It's on!

Put in the order for the motherboard and case today. The special on that motherboard at the moment is just too good to wait any longer.

Damn this build is getting pricey.

Decided to change the motherboard order as the MSI board only supports up to 60mm M.2 cards which sucks a bit, and the board is on backorder. Went with an Asus board which is a bit more expensive.

Should have half a new PC next week :D

Welcome to the world of quality boards.

/flamesuit on.

Honestly I was a bit hesitant to pull the trigger on the Asus board. Apparently has some reported wifi issues (using 5Ghz) as well as issues with NVMe M.2 drives as boot drives - seeing as I don't have a 5Ghz wifi network and won't initially be using a NVMe drive I just went ahead with it. There aren't that many choices available for z170 m-ITX boards honestly.

Hesitant? I have had Asus boards since my A8N32-SLI deluxe.
Never once had a problem with them, ever. I love them.

I have built some pretty nice Gigabyte boards as well, and they also just work, perfectly.
But my heart is with Asus.

There isn't many because there is not a big market for it really, only us enthusiast love it and are willing to pay top dollar for it.
I will upgrade my mobo once the Asus Impact IX get released... probably 4 years from now.

Asus and Gigabyte are rock solid. Thou I have found Gigabyte to be slightly more stable.

Had the same problem with AM1 m-ITX...think there 2 to choose from in the country (ended up with an MSI which is fine).

Like Ay-soos's stuff a lot...solid products and they get the aesthetics more right than other Asian companies (to my taste anyway). Love my Nexus 7 tablet and laptop (UX305FA) also.

I also want to build a mini ITX PC because I'm tired of lugging around a giant case in which the components use about 1% of the case's space.

Do you guys have any idea which hard drives Western Digital uses in their 2.5" Element external hard drives? Apparently you can't just take them out of their enclosure and connect them to your PC because they use a proprietary connector internally but perhaps I can buy a SATA version of the hard drive they put in there.

If I can get a case with a 3.5" drive mount then that'd be ideal because I just bought a 2TB Caviar Black in December but it seems like most of the mini itx cases don't have space for a 3.5" drive unless you have a tiny GPU.

My requirements are:
1) Be as small as possible.
2) Have space for 2 2.5" drives or (preferably) 1 3.5" drive and 1 2.5" drive.
3) Have space for a full sized graphics card.
4) (preferably) Be in the book shape.

The Silverstone Raven RVZ01 seems to fit my requirements perfectly but I can't seem to find it locally.

Thanks, any suggestions would be appreciated.

You won't find the Silverstone in SA, i went down this path as well but unfortunately... Unfortunately. I fell in love with that case.

Anyway, your best bet is a lian pq 10 or 19 or something. Too lazy to google now, or a bitfenix phenom.

Ah, that's unfortunate. I really liked it.

This is quite a weird case but it has everything I need.
