New MWEB Packages

This is the MWEB Business offering marketed to residential users minus the contract and Cisco router rental.

It's nice if you want such speeds but it's very expensive. If MWEB doesn't slow down the existing 4Mbit uncapped accounts to force high users into this OVERPRICED and RIDICULOUSLY EXPENSIVE offering, I'll be happy to stay on UNCAPPED SHAPED as I could potentially achieve >1TB /month on that if I really wanted (downloaded 24/7). What's worrying is that it seems that MWEB maybe can't afford to run the current 4Mb offering at the present price.

To SUMMARISE - it's EXPENSIVE, OVERPRICED and is going back to the PRE-SEACOM days. Maybe it's nice for gamers or people who trade stock online but then don't call it 'addict'. People who really need to trade stock should have the option of a BUSINESS OFFERING with the goodies which go with that (24/7 support etc), possibly minus contract or on short term contracts - eg 3-6mo contracts.

It is a very expensive option -- the same price as the business account without the on-site support and router, etc. Fair enough, those are services which would not necessarily be required by someone wanting the "addict" account, but why can't they price it somewhere between the Connect and Business accounts.

"The Seacom thing"? My understanding is that the SEA-ME-WE-4 cable was been fully repaired several weeks ago ...

Same experience here. Before the seacom fiasco HTTP was great for me, after the repair I have yet to see linespeed on HTTP again. Had a quick burt of 400K last night downloading a small file. The very next one I got was at 80KB/s again.

MWEB did say there is something wrong upstream from them so I'm holding thumbs for a quick resolution.

There does seem to be severe congestion at times on MWeb's international transit providers (the London end of SEACOM).

MWeb has the option to change upstream service providers, but presumably this cannot be done at short notice (contracts, costs, etc). Tracert will tell you who it is on each route (usually the 8th or 9th hop). Seems to be mostly Above.net, CogentCo, etc.

Don't feed the troll.

People complaining bitterly about shaped internet should be ignored. Just two months ago, there was no such thing at that price. We've only been waiting fifteen years for shaped uncapped and now when we get it, we get idiots who find something to complain about. Shame.

++1 *nod*

You get what you pay for, and by realistic logical and technical limitations...
This reminds me of the dumb****s who burn trains because they were late, then the next day they strike and burn cars because the trains they burned the previous day didn't pitch at all at the platform...

I'd rather have my nuts stapled to the ceiling than go back to Screamer. They were that bad. I'm just a bit peeved that MWEB considers selling this new Gamers package at the same price as Business, without IMO the benefits.

This.
