Has someone mentioned the Disqus comments are missing on old articles?

Also that huge real estate grabbing banner that distractingly pops up when you start scrolling...
If I forget which article I am reading I can always look at 1) the window title bar 2) the TAB title or 3) the URL address text...

I'm not seeing that - went to an article from 4 days ago, and the comments load up fine.
 
It is so clean, article titles only, accompanied by a graphic. I have decided most of the graphics are a waste. Sometimes pointless (design), sometimes not done well (editorial). Pleasing but pointless.

The editorial team have to work hard(er) because none of the titles hooks me in completely. A couple baits me to click for more (maybe of interest but "hmm not enough to bother about"), a few more spells "boring!!, don't waste your time" and it is even easier to spot the click bait. So the eye travels quickly and depending on the titles away from the site too quickly. Article titles are bland, like a trade journal. Without the teaser/intro's/summaries I decide too quickly to skip the article. For some titles I have read the articles elsewhere and dismissing quickly (if I have to click to check if am I getting a fresh view I won't - the teaser is an important to me)

I used the wayback machine to compare from 2007/2011/2014/2016/new layout and yep the design has gotten a lot better. But leaves the editorial at a growing disadvantage because they get less to work with.

I used to spend hours a day on the Guardian.co.uk but with their progressive layouts (titles with graphic) I found it easier to skip articles as titles are not enough of a hook.

Remember that I am not this sites customer, your advertisers are and what you sell them are my page views.

tl;dr Prima Donna front end devs are more concerned about aesthetics than best business practices.

No, that is different *. The hook/teasers/summaries ( for want of the technical term ) found in the previous layout is gone, leaving only bland titles. Lesser enticement to the sites original content in its current form.

For me the new layout works brilliantly because so far I have spent a fraction of my time skimming just the titles and not clicking the articles.

* Clickbait is different - it is the regular junk articles that appear on this site, the sole existence is for page views and infuriates me the reader. Now much easier to spot in the new layout.
 
MyBB could always put the abstract/intro text into a title attribute or a normally hidden div that is only displayed when one hovers over the headline/image (to serve as a teaser).
 
So finally had a chance to look at the full site on a PC.

Why is everything so spaced out? So much wasted space. Someone got very cell padding or margin happy?

Are you referring to the space between each post on the home page? If it were less, then each post in the company news/press office section would be far too cluttered - they use the same CSS class-names. I do prefer more density on the home page, and so they should maybe have reduced the bottom margin and padding on the home page and used a different naming scheme for the press office.

Adblock on or off, makes no difference.

Now that I have used the new look a bit, I do not like it, prefer the old GUI.

What is the reason for the grey colour? More power efficient? I find it much harder to read ...
 
To much space at the top as mentioned , scroll a whole page to see content .
