Fairly sure we had this question recently.

Second-hand for me, carefully..

2nd Hand, but not at the moment. The dealers just want to screw you as they know there is a shortage so the prices of some 2nd hand is more than new.

I am 43. The only new car I ever bought was a dud. Gave me endless problems. I decide on a model I want, then take my time looking for a low km, well looked after one. Never had problems with any car I ever drove, except for the new one.

One must always buy new with the kakkest finance deal you can find. You then take the moerse knock-on depreciation so the next guy can score a bargain.

Right now the second hand market is dominated by the greedy! New cars are simply unaffordable and the demand for used vehicles is high and therefore the prices have become unreasonably high. I'll wait.

I've been looking at new vs. used. The used prices are ridiculous at the moment. You can buy a used car with 6k on the clock, or pay 10-20k more and get a brand-new 2023 vehicle.

Would be interesting to see an in depth analysis and what is happening there.

I can probably sell my 2006 Hyundai for the same price I bought in in 2017, if not more?

Decide on a budget and buy the best car for the money. More often than not a second hand one will be the best you can get. E.g. a 2/3/4 year old Merc/BM/Lexus/Volvo etc can be had for the price of a new Cherry/Ford/VW/Tata etc and will always be the better buy.
So, mostly second hand, though out of the 33 cars I've owned so far, many were bought new.

my first car i bought was new. didnt depreciate much (Toyota). every subsequent car was a sub 10k kms demo model
