My Friend Wants A new pc and is not sure what to go for, some basic graphic design and mainly general use, with a little bit of gaming.

Option 1 - R3000
Intel Core 2 Quad Q8300, 2.5ghz
2 gb DDR 2 800
500GB Hard Drive

Option 2 - R3899
Intel Core i5 650 3.2ghz
2 gb DDR3 1333 Ram
500gb Hard Drive
Intel Tom Cove H55 M/BOARD

Option 3 - R4299
Intel Core i5 750 2.66ghz
2 gb DDR3 1333MHZ
500GB Hard Drive
Intel Whitesbrurg H55 M/BOARD(No Onboard vga)

What option Do you guys recomend, he will be spending an extra 1600 on a monitor and another 1000 on a vga. Is it worth going for one of the i5's are they alot faster than the quad core.
And is there a big difference between the two i5's processing speed(worth the extra R400)? Cause he would prefer not to buy the vga now and rather get it in like another month.

I'd go option 2 but rather go i3 530(dual core) and save money..
And go for 4GB ram if you using a 64bit OS..

The i5 650(dual-core) is a waste if you not using the onboard. And you should rather go i5 750 (quad-core) for the similar price as you going discreet graphics..

Perhaps amd 965 or 955 would be better and you get much better motherboards for your money.

Look into it i reckon. You don't want to go for a dual core gaming rig that is for sure

I'd also say option 1 is a no go! You should look forward!
Why not look at:
i3 530
2x 2GB RAM DDR3 1333
Intel Hunter Cove
500GB HDD
Total about R3600...
It'll suit your needs just fine.
or if you want the quad core i5 750
You'll be looking at about R4500

Or if you want to go AMD's six core you'll be looking at about R4700

You should look at online stores. They very competitive in their pricing!
But dont over spec if you dont need it..

For graphic design I'd really recommend a quad or at least a tri core.

Especially considering your budget. Something based on the Athlon II 630 would be what you are looking for.

Think he will go for the Option 3, i5 750, he will probably add 2gb of ddr3 ram,

HI FI Corporation have the 23" LG Full hd LCD Monitor for 1399, you guys rate this a good price?

sorry for asking but it might be on topic. will a GT240 be enough for entry level gaming as my brother is building a similar pc to option 3 mainly for other stuff but will play a game like once a while.

As long as it's the DDR5 version and not the DDR3 version yes. There's quite a big performance difference and the 512mb DDR5 beats the 1gig DDR3.

I was thinking of the MSI 240GT 1GB DDR5 version

Generally the 512 DDR5 and 1gig DDR3 are priced the same.

was planning on going to get the pc 2mrw and when we phoned we found out that they don't stock option 3any more :( only option 2 which is the i5 650, @ R3999 is it worth it? ie still a decent processor,
or would he be better off buying the i3- 540 @ R3399.

Rather get a Phenom II setup instead.

Is the i5- 650 old tech or is future upgradeable, and for R3999 will i be disappointed when it comes to some graphic design?

You most probably will be.. Rather get the i5 750 if you buying a discreet graphics card. Quadcore will serve you better..

Ya pc zone told me they dont have the i5-750 thats why i asked. Will try see if you can get a custom built rig from them for about 4400 without a vga
