New PC (Which Mobo + CPU)

True, there aren't that many games optimized for quad core. But even without the optimization the performance is nothing short of staggering... I went from an AMD 3800+ to an Intel Q6600 and my frame rates have almost quadrupled! :D

Good choice, Zenbaas :)

Oooh really? im planning on going from a 3800+ to something similar too so its nice to know there is a difference. Quite a noticable difference in load times for games?

Yeah WKJ cant wait! I just don't have the buck to upgrade all the time so this is my way of future "proofing" for a while. I now just need to wait to see how the new ATI cards perform and the updated gts for that matter before i can get all my stuff together. And waiting for the suppliers to get stock of my case(Cooler master 690 :D) This will be my first build so im super excited!

ATI? no dude, get the 8800GT its gonna be the beshizzle! and the pricing indicators are looking good!

I used to wait around 30 seconds for Unreal Tournament 2004 to load DM-Morpheus3, currently about 5 seconds :)

Dude i just don't want to be caught out in all this frenzie about the GT. I have read tons on it and it runs bloody hot and noisy ATM. It would be stupid to not at leist check out the ATI cards as they are 55nm chips and will be or should be very well priced. I have also read that they have apparently sorted the issues with AA and AF.

And even that said i want to see what the updated gts will be all about.

@ WKJ...i will definately be OCing...will be aiming for a 3.4ghz stable 24/7.
Will also be getting a Thermalright ultima 90 to cool the little monster!

When I play BF2 then I sit on teh varifying client data part for like 1 min. Looking forward to getting into the maps sooner!

Good choice, If im not mistaken then very few games are optimized for quad core.
Anyone know for sure if thats the case?

Supreme Commander
World in conflict
Crysis (head developer quoted as saying that a quad core brings more benefit than a more powerful graphics card)
UT3

basically every major new game coming on the market now and over the next 6 months.

Yoh... OK, I'll reconsider and then maybe go for the quad-core...
My only concern for the quad-core is this : Currently the Q6600 is the only affordable quad around, and both that's available runs @ 1066MHz FSB, but I suspect all newer ones will become 1333MHz FSB??
Is this worth worrying about?

Do you know something about FSB that we don't? You can go for the E6750 but i wont be the one kicking myself. It's not like the E6750 runs at 5Ghz and the quad at 2? You are worrying about the wrong thing. Go Quad or go home :D Or then raher wait another 6 months and then penryn will be out running at...wait for it...1333FSB. Lol

It's go Quad or go E4300 and overclock the k@k out of it.

anything inbetween is wasting money

Would I be able to get a mild overclock (2.6-3.0 Ghz) on a quadcore and an Intel Frostburg (G33 chipset) board??
It's just that if I do go quadcore, I'm a little short on cash, and the Intel Frostburg is about R200 cheaper than the ASUS P5N-E-SLi...

Do not go with an Intel board if you're even thinking of overclocking!! While their CPUs do OC like crazy, Intel don't support OCing on their boards.

I'd recommend holding onto the money until you have enough for the Asus P5N-E SLi... You won't believe the difference a good overclocking motherboard makes. :)
