New Pc

Probably going to get that next month cause I will need a new PSU as well.

R5000 maybe R6000
little bit of gaming and everything else

With such a budget I am assuming you already have the chassis, [psu + gfx later], screen and input devices?

yip, the reason why im going for that board is because I have 2x19 inch lcd monitors

lol. no point if I have no pc, atm their just standing on my desk

Well a 22" screen is awesome to look at. Even if there's nothing showing [although it is a lot more fun doing something on it at 1680x1050]...

The RAM, HDD and writer are fine but a newer Intel CPU is really where you want to spend your money.

The Asus P5Q is a nice board for R1500ish, and then the CPU will be around R900 more for the E8400. That would be much better than the old 5000+ X2. Even a cheaper Intel CPU would still be a better choice. But the P5Q has no on board graphics, if that is a problem until next month.

If I take that board and chip(R900? cheapest i find is around R1500)then ill probably get this http://www.prophecy.co.za/gecube-hd4850-512mb-gddr3-256bit-hdmi-p-28911.html card. I currently have a 500w psu(also 5 years old) but i dont think its got the right connectors for new gfx cards. All these hings will push the price to over R7000(ouch). would it be better to add the extras onto the original items or take the 7000 and work out other options?

I have a second hand machine available if you're interrested, specs are as follows:
(About 6 months old)

Asus P5k Motherboard
Intel Core2 Duo 6600, 2.4Ghz (I think)
4GB RAM (4x 1GB Sticks)
74GB Raptor Hard Disk (Which I'll probably take for myself :D)
XFX Geforce 8800GTS 320MB
Antec NSK4400 Chassis
Thermaltake Purepower 460W PSU

You're welcom to make me an offer ;)

Agreed, although I'm not sure if you can get the E8400 for R900

As a amd fan i say go for it.But for performance I suggest u go Intel.
E7200 processor and then just a good gigabyte or asus motherboard maybe P35 board if your on a budget.

It's R900 more than the 5000+ X2 you were going to buy. Also why not just get the same card at landmark where you're buying everything else, it's a little cheaper. This new CPU and mobo would then be around R1400 extra ontop of the original.

There aren't really any new connectors, and you get adapters than convert plain IDE type power connectors into the right 6pin for newer graphics cards. 500Watts should be enough, but maybe if it's that old you do want a new one.

If you can afford the R7000 then that system is pretty much ideal. I'd go for it unless you want to spend less in which case you can get a cheaper CPU or mobo quite easily.

I wanted to go cheaper but now I'll probably buy it all in one go and get it over with(before I change my mind).
