I'm building a new pc & i'm stuck with choosing between motherboards...

i'm looking at:

FOXCONN G31 MX-K for R579

Intel G35 Eva Cove Creek for R1000

Intel P35 Dragontail Peak for R1333

Intel P43 Topsfield for R1200

Intel G45 Icedale for R1395

I'm getting a Q6600 cpu, 2GB DDR2 800 RAM & leadtek 9800gt g/c.

I'm mainly focused on rendering(architectural) & gaming...

Can anybody help me decide please...

PS - what is the minimum PSU I would be needing for such a system???

Go for the P35 chip. They overclock quite well and will give you great bang for your buck.

NVidia states that the minimum PSU requirement for the 9800GT is 400W. I'd get a 550W or so with dual +12V Rails and enough amperage on those rails. Something like an Antec or an OCZ.

Isn't that P35 chip a Intel and as far as I know Intel boards don't like over clocking, but I could be wrong.
I would go for a P5k or a P5N-D, the P5N-D was going for R1299 at pczone a week ago, don't know how much it costs everywhere else but it looks like a nice board.

P35 OC well....intel do not. Would not go for an Intel board...rather get a Gigabyte or an Asus. I have a P5K myself (with Q6600) and Im super happy with it.

You really get your money's worth when you buy optimized/gaming motherboards. Rather spend little more on it, as its the backbone of your PC.

This is probably overkill... but you get the idea. Keep in mind, its the last part of your PC that you'll upgrade.

I would not spend that kind of money a 775 board at this point to be honest.

I7 mobo's will come down and so will the cpu's, in 6 months time do you really want to change your 4k mobo because 775 are being phased out?

Hmmmm... 775 technology is still brilliant in 6 months time. The best is still to really ask yourself what you need... And answering "The Best" is a really bad answer. :)

It may be the good but as with all sockets intel and amd bring out within 6-8 months the cpu and mobo become a worry.

Once cheaper I7 mobo's hit the market i would feel really silly having dropped 4k on a mobo for an old socket. Also when amd bring out their cpu's you should see a big price drop by intel, but yea buy a 4 k mobo now and suffer in 8 months :). 1.5k mobo is fine not such a knock when you have to upgrade your mobo :).

*foozball still fails to see the point in a I7 processor*
PS3 + Format + Linux + WINE = One happy puppy.
There are cheaper ways to get more power...
But then you have to stop and ask yourself if you'll actually see the difference...

Well fooz i noticed a massive difference from p4 to core 2, so i am pretty sure faster cpu's make a difference or we would all still being our 486's.

Fooz the day linux can run every single game i play flawlessly and run corel draw with vector magic is the day i may look at it but until then i want speed with an OS that does everything i want it to.

My point is... I'm still running an AMD Athlon 64 bit at 2.4 GHz, most games work fine, and if i need to I can safely push it up to 2.9. Having a dual/quad core is not a need at this point. And I still haven't found a good reason to spend 8k on upgrading my setup... It A LOT of cash, spend it wisely.

It all depends I suppose. I saw a MASSIVE difference going from my P4 to my Q6600(3Ghz). I don't plan on upgrading anytime soon so this build will last me for quite a while and I can add bits and bobs when the necessity arises.

Most games work fine yea i am sure but if you want to play the latest games on high i doubt your cpu will come close but thats your choice.

I love playing games and having as fast a pc as i can afford because its makes my gaming and work life alot better :)

Seems like its a matter of priorities then. :) I love the odd mindless game (NFS + gamepad = :D)... but i spend most of the time that I'm on my PC with developing my .Net (C#, VB, ASP) skills, researching and trying to make some cash to go to awesome places. (And don't forget making the odd 3D model).
Its amazing how much cash you save when you're not a "hardcore" gamer anymore :D

wow...
good arguments guys...
thanks...

the thing is, my pc bombed out and i need one NOW...

one more question...

How is the leadtek 9800gt g/c???

Any good.... I'm getting it for R1880

Ya dude that card will be fine but if you could afford a few bob more get an ati 4850, if not that card is just fine.

and leadtek?

is it a good company? reliable and stuff?
