NEW PC.....

is the X38 mobo better than the P35 or P45?

i was also stuck on that question but have decided on the best x38 I can afford, and it's the asus maximus formula.

X38 is better if you wanna crossfire, as it has true 2 x 16X PCIExpress, not 8X + 8X.

it is an older motherboard, but I prefer it to a crapper, newer board for the same price.

also look for X48, and the newest X58 (supporting SLI & XFire)

I have P35, X38 and P45 boards and the P45 beats the P38 unless you plan on xfire then the X38 will win (2 * 16 as mentioned earlier). P45 i find is way easier to oc and seems more stable to me.

X38 with an E7200 at 3.8
P45 with a Q9550 at 3.6

well the asus maximus formula mobo comes with "level up" which is the easiest there is imho - it detects what cpu you have and then spews out a few choices of what you want to overclock to. it also has a "crazy" option and the guys at tigertv (You tube) said it OCs a q6600 2.4GHz to 3.5 GHz! (Not sure if thats purely on air though..)

seems pretty user friendly, if you are new to OCing
