New Rechargeable Lightbulb

I've also seen them being sold at Spar, but different prices. Some even for R50, but had two family members that took theirs back to spar as they didn't last long. So I don't trust the cheaper ones and no name brand ones.

Thanks - I think I'll buy one as an experiment.

No problem. I did the same thing the first time I saw one. Bought it to see and was glad I did when load shedding started.
Bought a couple and gave them away to friends. They love it, some Checkers don't seem to sell them though. Depends on the regions it seems.

@ hackerjargon the fan????

My kitchen doesn't have any windows or ventilation and when making food, it can get stuffy. So I added and old PC fan (running from and 12v power supply hidden in the fluorescent housing). I rent a home and got permission from the owner to do it.
It's tiny but does help at least.

Doubt it... mine has a remote... you can set it that if the charge is interrupted it powers up instantly. So if you had the wall switch ON, and the power goes out, it will stay on...

Mine doesn't do that. But I prefer that it doesn't so it's mine is permanently switched on and kept on charge, except in the kitchen. Because it's wired to the same main wires as the fluorescent lighting, it only charge when I switch it on.

Makro has it for R159 made by Flash Components. I tested it on Friday it worked well

Went to our local Checkers Hyper in Somerset West and did not manage to find anything even remotely similar.

Apparently Checkers does Lumaglo brand but they don't have any stock. Also has remote unit.

Many shops do not stock the Ellies one anymore. Been on the market for Years now. Remote control and all. Looks nice.

Problem is that the Charger circuit canno't both keep the lights burning and the battery full (not even charging) at the same time...

When running on Mains these units rely on the internal battery to keep the light bright

How do I know...I bought one and tested it.

Years back. That's all I am prepared to say now :)

Are you recommending getting a different brand or is the whole concept flawed ?

Went to the Ellies store in Pinelands this morning. They do not have any stock countrywide and hoping to get stock in the 2 months time.

I'd think batteries and LED tech has made leaps and bounds, so his experience might be out of date now. 4 years ago you couldn't get a proper LED floodlight, now you can buy one at Checkers Hyper.

I bought 3 of these that are similar at Checkers for R70 (Ellies brand). They work with a remote. So no need to take it out all the time to switch it on. Bargain is that the remotes works on any of them, so I can use any of the three remotes to switch them on. I've got one in my kitchen, one in my bedroom and one ouside. Have a remote in my car too, so if I get home and its dark and no power, I just switch it on and have light.
You leave the light switch on and will stay fully charged at all times (unless power goes out, but will charge again when there's power)

I've never tested how many hours they last, but don't care. I at least have light when there's no power

Couldn't find this at Checkers :(
