We are in the process of launching a New Local MMORPG server in south africa. I won't disclose any details quite yet, more details will follow at a later date.

I am posting because we have positions availible on our staff if anyone is interested. This will not be a paid project, well, not yet anyway. this will be a huge oppertunity to gain experience in the gaming industry, and make friends in all the right places :p

If you have any experience with Programing in any of the following languages :

Programmer / Tool maker :
*C++
*VB.net
*Python - Not a must, but would be nice :p
Knowledge in mysql will be beneficial.

Graphic design :
*Photoshop
*Paintshop Pro
*3D studio max
*Macromedia Fireworks
*Experience with DDS Nvidia Texture files will be beneficial.

We are also looking for any good hosts out there that aren't gonna cost us an arm and a leg. We currently have one, but it wont be availible on a permanent basis.

If you want more details or are interested in any of the positions above please feel free to contact me at : 073 4341887 / PM me or Leave a message below.

More Details on the server will be made availible in the weeks to follow, please don't bug me for details, we are extremely busy and i dont have time for silly questions. All i will say for now is that the server is fully operational and almost ready for stress testing. ( And no, it is not a WOW or counterstrike server :p )

I know 3ds Max, PSP and DDS - would of been very interested but as it's a no-pay position, I won't leave my day Job just yet...

Are you guys coding a new game, and if so - how far are you in the development cycle?

Im just wondering, what SDK/engine are you going to use? Im assuming that by the VB.Net its aimed at windows?

Im quite interested in helping out where I can, but there isnt much to go on from this thread to be honest. Do you want one or two programmers? Do you want them to use one of the specified languages or all?

An idea might be to when you finally have everything set up for your MMO to try get IS or SAIX or VGS to sponsor a server for you?

Im active in the local game development community of Game.Dev, and currently Ive been working in C# (XNA) which is quite nice, I havent used C++ or VB for quite I while though, and Im currently doing python training for the computer olympiad.

You want a C++ / VB.net / Python programmer to work for free without any share options or anything.
Awesome!
Sign me up ... as in ... yes, please send me details.

he wants someone to work for free but he doesn't have time for our "silly questions" ?

good luck thriel.

Lol @DaveMC :P

You guys are asking alot of questions i can't publicly answer quite yet. But i will try and give information where i can.

I am not looking for people to work on the game itself, I just need people that can make some tools where needed and possibly do some design work for us. If you are good and feel up to the challange, you can maybe dive into the deep end and get your hands dirty and help in server development.

At this point in time the most important thing on our list is to get the server launched. We are not desinging a game from scratch, We are only working on an emulator, there is a whole team currently working on the emulator. It will be a Free to Play game. I'm sorry, but i can't give any further details away at this point in time, We will have screenshots, pic's, videos etc including a test server all in due time. All i can say, the graphics is good, its addictive, its quite complex and it's free to play :p. server should handle around 500 - 1000 players per server.

Status Report :

Game is operational :

Game login Server : Done
Character creation : Done
World server : Done
Quests : Done
Quest rewards : Done
PVP : Done
Skills : Done
Trading : Done
Party : Done
mobgroups : done
NPC's : Done
Loot : Done
Items : Done
Drop Tables : Done

Currently you can enter the game, run around and kill things, you get xp from killing and completing quests. You can party in a group. you can make or join a clan. You can PVP. all merchants are oprational. crafting is operational etc etc.

Now i would not say that it is complete quite yet, but i would say we are past the 90% mark. The server is good enough to launch, as the rest is coded it can be released via patches.

At Startup we are not planing on making any money, we did not do this project to get rich, we do it because we love it, we made a ton of good friends in the process, I suppose in the long run there will be money to be made, but that will all be a bonus.

S.A has no real good MMorpg servers apart from WOW ( which sux in my opinion, not to mention it is ilegal to run a WOW emulator/server ). We really need some fresh games in this country and we need some descent local servers. Here is a chance to be part of that. This game is good, and will be a very popular title when its released.

I Will be going to Cape town for the rest of this week, I will be back on Monday. I am sure i will be able to give some more info out then. If anyone is interested, just leave your details below and i'll PM you when i get back.

Exactly :P

Why dont we do this :

If you have any programing/Designing exprience and want to put your talents to good use, leave your details below. I will send you a link to our private server. you can log in, check it out for yourself, if you like what you see we can talk ...

I'm with Keeper on this one lol. I do 3DS Max 9 but I haven't got an awfull lot of time to make high quality models unfortunately :(. Would love to help you guys out but ja...post a screen shot or something pls:P

Private server (f2p), emulation. secretcy, when it's released.

"This game is good, and will be a very popular title when its released"
Doubt it, is this even your own game?

We are only working on an emulator, there is a whole team currently working on the emulator.

From this I assume it is not an original game but an emulator project? Well, I'll check back when you release more info as I don't want to commit to something I don't know anything about.

Make a post over at the local gamedev site www.sagamedev.com. There might be interested programmers and artists and some guys there work for places like IS and could help you with hosting.

Hi there - you doing it for a living or more as a hobbie?

I also use 9.

please refrain from negative talk, i realise that in this world for every positive mind you will find 10 people who will just spit on you because they can. but we are under alot of pressure and stressed out as is, we really dont need or care for any negativity at this point in time, specialy when you have no facts at all. you dont know the game title, you have not seen the emulator, you have not played on the server. maybe rather wait before you comment, because you may just be making an @ss of yourself ?

that is some good advice, but call me paranoid, iv'e been through enough hacking, back stabbing etc to last a lifetime, right now i would just rather do this with people i trust. last thing i need is for some idiot to post source code with his name in it 2 days before we go live and have 14 other servers popping up overnight.

I am all for open source, but there is a time and place for everything, and it will be on my terms, not some hacker or thief's ...

Anyway, i thought these forums was a good place to recruit some talent. I know after the server goes up we will be flooded with requests to join our crew, but i need it now, not when i am overstaffed :p

All i want is someone to make some tools, the other guys are flooded with work and i cant bother them everytime i need a program to convert data into sql format ...

Cant help you out, but I would just like to say good luck to you and your team. Make SA proud. I will be one of the first people to register as soon as the game has gone public.

All the best.

I don't play WoW but i'd give this a go if the download isn't too big...

as HugeFan said, best of luck.

Need more info like that...

Here's a couple of suggstions. For the programmer bit go post on the Nag forums, they also have a game dev section. I'm pretty sure you'll find a couple of locals that'll would love to get into the gaming industry and have a passion for games in general.

Anyways as for the server:
http://www.hypegamez.co.za/ specialises in hosting game servers.

But your in an intersting position since it'll be South Africa's first "legal" mmo or mmorpg. So you might be able to get the server sponsored. So I suggest trying to get in touch with the people that runs the folowing

Vodacomgaming recently launched and doesn't really have anything that makes them special atm. So running South Africas first MMORPG should put them on the map.

www.isgaming.co.za
IS once sponsored the DOTA server, the banner vanished some time ago, it is was an emulated server afterall...

http://www.iburst.co.za/default.aspx?link=site_home
Can also give iburst ago.

I doubt saix will have any interest. They simply don't have enough people to run it properly.

Just hit these forums and try and get in contact whoever runs them, there's a small chance they might be able to organise something.

The main problem is no one like jumping into something blindly, currently we have no idea what company you are working for, what kind of experience you have or if it's truly a game that'll draw attention. So you'll have to do a really good media release sometime soon.

In other words your gonna have to create some real interest first before you can expect things to happen.

I'm actualy working on some ingame video footage and i prefer not to say anything before its done. that way people can judge by what they see, and not what they read. it will also create a bigger "WOW, that looks great " factor which is exactly what i'm looking for. I'll probly finnish it when i get back from my cape town trip.

Thnx for all the info, i'll look into it.

no, we kinda playing it by ear. The actual server is done, now it's the little things that need work. The CMS must go up, we must neaten up the launcher, get the patch server up and running and tie that into the launcher. Get a forum up and running etc ...

Its all the little things that seem to take so much time. But I was speaking to one of my buds this morning and we are thinking that putting up a Beta server and letting limited amount of registered users log on and kinda help us smooth out any bugs might be a better way to go before the actual launch.

Right now the server is running on an Iburst connection  and surprising around 10 of us can log on without any problems or lag.

Server under no load only consumes around 50MB Ram, so code has been well optimised.

I am busy working on a Video to post online, but i leave for cape town tommorrow so not sure i'll finnish it before next week. It's nothing fancy, i am steering clear of showing off flashy effects, i want to concerntrate purely on functionality to minimise critisism which is allways plenty of :)

hi,

i might be interested, i am fluent in shader scripting, c++, python, C#, assembler. I have also been actively involved in a few games in the public sector, a remake of a classic of Outcast (openoutcast.org).

my strengths are artificial intelligence, and network design (client/server). I have also worked on core rendering engines such as ogre3d, crystal, panda, etc.. :)
