New SA mobile data prices compared

My dad has a 2GB MTN connection at his house and it ran out of data for the first time this month. The prices listed in the MTN desktop app have a once-off month-long 500MB topup for around R280. Where the hell do prices like that come from? It's cheaper to buy a new sim card and load data on it than to just topup your existing one.

MTN's data prices are shocking post changes..

I still want to know how come Cell C is still cheaper than the 2 big players in most instances?

"I never realised that MTN's data is the most expensive of all Service Providers."
what MTN has going for it is the "Data Share', where if you and family have devices (on MTN) you can have one sim with big data bundle on, and share the data accross the devices, instead of having a data bundle for each device, which invariably results in paid-for unused data lost at month end.
maybe thats why MTN more expensive? always a compromise on consumer side
Pity Vodacom doesnt have that option yet.
of course it would also help if the networks use the oldest data first, and carry over the newest left over data... (or has that changed recently?)

Telkom mobile prepaid should have 2 pricings, roaming (all networks) and Telkom only... i use it a lot, loaded again this morning for 2 users.
if u use the telkom network for data (not all networks), then pricing is 250Mb=R38, 500Mb=R69, 1Gb=R119, 5Gb=R349 making it a lot cheaper, also lasts until the next mo

Article left out the MTN OneTime bundles, that are 6 to 12 month prepaid data bundles.

They are great and so much cheaper than the prices given here.

I mentioned that to Jannie last year and he said watch this space.... my newer bundles still deplete first.... as do free minutes.

Wtf? Those prepaid Telkom Mobile prices are nothing like what I have on my phone screen. The lowest bundle purchase is R39 for R250 and 1 gig is R119, not R180 as on the article.

What's going on?

All network data vs Telkom only data?

Not really. They are on par or in some instances even more expensive than the others. The day where Cell C was the cheapest by far is long gone. Remember their 99c per minute promotion when other providers' call rates where about R2 a minute? Not anymore.
