I have an old (6 years+) vodacom sim (32K) and was wondering if vodacom can replace it with a new one (128K) free of charge? Or how much does it cost? I'm on the weekender contract. Need more space for contacts on the sim and the sim is rather worn out.

Any input appreciated :)

dude - how many Numbers do you have

can't you copy them to your phone memory?

even old phones can do that.

I think the cost would be R99 from what I remember when I was Voda as you are on contract, plus you are basically doing a sim swap just for more space on a sim.

Too much for a 32K sim ;)

I can, but I want the contacts on the sim for when I use another phone, phone upgrades etc :)

Get one of those sim card backup devices, haven't used it but they are shown with the Incredible Connection ad papers and should do a similar job of keeping your contacts safe.

just delete the numbers you don't need - surely you don't NEED to have 300 numbers on you all the time

Cool thanks. And the sim is rather worn out after all the years I've been with them :p

You're not really helping ;)

but seriously though - what phone have you got - it should be able to store nr's on it's memory, even if it only has like 1 MB

The problem is most likely when switching phones and your numbers are stuck on the previous phone.

I do the following:

- Never store any numbers on a SIM.
- Store all numbers on the mobile and sync that handheld with Outlook.
- Any new phone is then configured to sync with Outlook (they all can do this).

Now it does not matter which phone I use or on which one I enter or edit a contact. All phones are automatically updated with the latest contacts. And I effectivly have multiple backups!

I don't trust my PC enough to store such things on it, only to have Seagate's hdd fail on me :p

I found a nice site called Zyb which can sync with the phone to download/upload contacts within seconds to their online servers. Works quite nicely :) I guess I should sync it to outlook too though, just in case. Quite a hassle getting hundreds of cell numbers should something go wrong :p

The problem isn't that my phone can't handle all the contacts, but that should I use another phone, I can't carry over all of my contacts via the sim. Syncing with servers/outlook should fix this problem though :)

My sim is rather worn though, gonna have to be replaced some time.

Paid 20 bucks for my 64k

Nokia E51. Nokia's contact sync thing would defeat the purpose, because I'm quite a Sony Ericsson fan ;)

Use Mobical.net it's free and it's quick to setup and basically works with any SyncML phone like your Nokia E51 to the Sony Ericsson X1.

Don't you get a free SIM swap if you have the quickSIM service from Vodacom?
