New Skype software

Am using the new version, and sure looks and works better than version 1! Nice one from Skype!

I loaded it, but every time someone calls me and I accept the call or vice versa my PC gives me the BSOD and the following error:

"Driver Irql Not Less Or Equal"
"STOP 0x000000D1 (0x00162AA4, 0x00000002, 0x00000000, 0x F77097F3)" "sfng32.sys - Address F77097F3 base at F7707000 Datestamp 424 9000b"

Sounds like you have a USB headset, if this is the case reload the driver. I had this issue yesterday and resolved it by doing the driver reload. By the way, the integrated Video works very well too,

No. Standard speakers and a Labtec microphone. All running through my on board sound card.

Is your sound chip C-Media by any chance? One of the C-Media chips is very unstable (i'll have to find out which one it is) - i had to ditch a Motherboard cause my system kept on BSOD'ing while playing music in Winamp...

<on-topic> I've been using Skype 2.0 since it was a BETA - i really like it. The feature i like the most is the local time display in the contact profiles. Saves my poor brain from having to remember time zone conversions </on-topic>

It is Sigmatel, but it does seem to be the problem. There are no driver updates either.

RVFmal, a "Driver Irql Not Less Or Equal" issue is more often than not related to a USB device conflict, could be that one of your USB controllers is conflicting with another bit of hardware.

Appreciate the response. If it is a USB device conflict, why then does it only occur when I try and answer a Skype call? None of the devices I use for Skype are USB devices?

why skype won't work, security issues and 419 scammers

Put Skype on mothers computer in Perth, Australia so I could "phone" from SA. Within 2 days she had two "phone calls" from very odd names. Because of low, zero call costs from Nigerian internet cafes skype is awsomely open to abuse, particularly due to ease of finding "numbers" via location directory enquiries. Now unloaded from mothers computer. I shudder to think of potential for abuse con artists, paedophiles etc. VOIP is a dead duck till security issues adressed. Will stick to MSN mseenger thanks. No new software needed thanx

Windmill while i understand your concern, you could have solved your problem with 5 clicks of your mouse.

Tools menu - options - privacy - allow calls from only people in my contacts - save.

Skype, 419

Thanx for advice Davogg. I will check in on Skype now and again to see if their "spam" filters are convincing enough for me. Having won the Dutch lotto twice this week I will remain unconvinced my eighty year old mother won't get a telephonic advice of having won same, prepaid airplane ticket to Lagos to collect her prize. Maybe Skype needs to push it's security features harder so e-bay is not compromised by 419 ers.
As a sideswipe at Telkom, My 80 year old mother in Perth is on broadband 24/7 with a belkin wireless router, uses e-mail all the time and knows the internet like the back of her hand. Her SA equivalent is on 56 k dial up terrified of cost implications of retrieving e-mail and so remains out of normal contact with family. A simple photo attachment takes half an hour. Shame on Telkom!
