New small suv (2020 recommendations)

Hey Guys

I am looking at selling my car and buying a new small SUV towards the end of 2019 or early 2020. I currently have a Duster and very happy with the car I just can't handle the limited power on the long roads and timing every takeover to perfection.

Things I am looking for:

Budget R 350 000 - R 400 000
New or Used (Max two years old & < 40 000km)
Off Road capability, must be able to mount a curb and 4x4 is an nice option but not a necessity
Decent re-sell value although will probably keep for a good 5-8 years so not as important
General Use (50% City, 40% Long Road, 10% Gravel / Off Road)
Looking for an adventure car that can be used as a family vesicle in a couple of years
Decent boot space to fit a couple of bags, bicycle without removing the wheels a bonus

Current shortlist:

1. Tiguan
2. T-Roc (Might be more of a cross over and not totally sold on the ground clearance)
3. Rav 4
4. Mazda CX 5


Any recommendations ?
 
the havaal h2 is quite decent overall. although not 4x4

also perhaps the Suzuki grand vitara?
 
T-Roc shouldnt be in there, its body, so you dont really get the benefit of "SUV" space. The rest competes.

Tiguan could be a decent option, get one with a 5yr mp thats a 1-2yrs old, so you should still have 3 yrs on it.
Got ours 2 years and its such a nice place to be.

Cant Really speak for the RAV, but i believe the new one is miles better than the outgoing one.

Mazda looks great, but i dont think it (or even the RAV) can compete with VW on fuel economy.

Honestly, between those 3, they all decent. it will come down to sitting in one and driving it.

Most SUV's have decent resale value.
Peugeot 3008 or Mazda CX-5
 
First Drive - New Volkswagen T-Cross - Landing in SA in 2019

South Africans are certifiably SUV-crazy and seem to have an insatiable appetite for anything with a higher ride height and chunky SUV styling.

While brands such as Ford and Renault have been contesting this segment for a while, with the EcoSport and Captur respectively, VW is oddly late to the party.

However, the German brand is about to introduce a strong challenger in the form of the all-new T-Cross. We travelled to Mallorca of the coast of Spain to sample the all-new, smallest SUV in the VW stable.

 
In that price bracket I hope you're looking secondhand. Even the tiny SUVs are all north of R400 000 in the 'non-poverty-spec' trim lines.

Just recently ... was looking downgrade to something smaller than the Elantra 2017/2018 ... ended up with the Hyundia Creta.... https://www.cars.co.za/motoring_news/hyundai-creta-2018-specs--price/45132/
have not done any off road...but pretty happy with how it handles.
 
im in the same boat perhaps also look at the Volvo i saw a 2017 model Xc60 D4 for like r400k mileage 33k their is cheaper prices out their, i also like the Subaru Crossover and of course Mazda CX5

Probably looking at second hand but relatively new less than a year old. Also selling my odl car next month so might be able to invest the capital for a good 6-12 months.

T-Cross seems just to small but the so does the T-Roc, looking for a SUV and not a cross-over.

Read the review of the "long time driven" Peugot 3008 and the reviews are great but the look just doesn't do it for me.

I think I have a top 3.

1. Tiguan (still undecided on which option here)
2 Rav 4 (Also read the review and want to test drive the new one)
3. Honda CRV

Mazda 5 just fell out as I prefer the other 3 but might be an option if I find a great deal.

Probably the pick of the bunch here unless the OP considers the Renault.
