New small suv (2020 recommendations)

I have finally decided that I want either a Tiguan or Forester. Unfortunately both are above R 400k and can't find a good second hand deal with low mileage. This i will need to save for another 12-18 months to put down a big deposit.

Currently I am looking for a small SUV below R 250k with low milage and have only really found the Mitsubishi ASX.

Very old and outdated.

I would push for a rav4. Has nice resale value, Km not so important as the engine is bulletproof and resale value not much effected.
 
For 250k, consider a 2017 Nissan Qashqai. Can be had in auto and manual and it is well specced and comfortable and should have plenty of the 6yr warranty left.
 
Honda BR-V with a ground clearance of 210mm, enough space and a decent engine with good fuel consumption...

Had a look at the brv, hrv and crv today. Must say the they all look decent with great ground clearance but the crv seems slightly overpriced
 
Hey guys, I have narrowed down my search and for around same price I can get the following new cars.

1. Tiguan 1.4 Comfort line ( Leather seats, reverse camera, adaptive cruise control)
2. Rav4 2.0 VX CVT 2WD (Standard Spec)

The engines are similar performance wise or at least when accelerating from 80-120km. Really happy with both cars so I guess the tie breakers is the long term cost. Planning to keep the car for 5-8 years.

1. Insurance - Is there a real cost difference between VW & Toyota ?
2. Re-sell value - I guess both would have a good resell value ?

Which one of the cars would you guys recommend ?
 
I would buy the Rav4, it looks a better bet for 8 years. Is it the new one? Looks like the standard spec has all those features you mentioned on the Tiguan?
 
Im biased, Tiguan. its such a nice place to be in, very refined drive. extending VW comprehensive motorplan is actually very affordable.

Drive both then decide. really the only way to do it. both will keep their value.

Correct, I have driven the Tiguan and it drives very well. Will try the Rav 4 this weekend but difficult to judge a car on 10 minutes of driving.

I would concentrate on ticking the features boxes and seeing that it has everything that I need, it will drive more or less like other SUVs.

Take it for a longer drive. Tell them you need it for a couple of hours. Be prepared to put petrol in though as they usually leave them with very little in. If they won’t let you drive it for longer than ten minutes, don’t buy from them.
 
Guess I will have to make a pro's and con's list. Only downer is current Rav4's don't have Android Auto

Infotainment in tiguan was amazing, snappy. supports AA and Carplay. not sure what options there are. but ours has wireless charging as well.

Hi Guys,

Does the Tiguan 1.4 have the same problem with the high oil consumption as the golf 1.4 ?

Are these the same engines ?

Both good choices. Just test drive and see which one you like more.

Wifes 1.4 T audi (90kw) and her current 1.4 T TIguan (110kw) both use no oil. had the audi for 6 yrs. tiguan for 2.

I think its much better now.

my old polo gti on the other hand was 500ml of oil for every 3000kms

Man that sounds too good to be true. Tiguan below R400k, mileage below 30k with all the features listed above?
