I don't want to spend more then R500 on a sound card.

And which is good music players to run???I got winamp and windows media player. Is there anything better out there???

Heh. :D

That Creative should do the job. Should go for about R350 - R400.

Next ones up are R700+.

I got myself the GD580 speakers and to be honest I was sceptical that I would hear a difference when upgrading from the onboard realtek sound... but after installing my ASUS Xonar soundcard I was surprised at the clear difference it made.

I was shocked because on one track I played I heard a mumble at the start of the song but after installing the soundcard I actually could make out the voice clearly.

If you want my vote for a card it will be more than R1000
The Xonar D2 or if you are a gamer XFI Xtreme Gamer

I wouldn't spoilt those speakers by using a crappy soundcard like the Audigy Value. If you want to save money, buy a 2nd-hand Audigy 2-ZS. Otherwise save up for an X-Fi XtremeGamer and avoid the XtremeAudio.

It's a good card, but he doesn't want to spend more than R500 on a sound card. I think the Audigy range will suffice.

A friend and I bought ourselves Altec Lansing MX5021. These are some seriously good-sounding PC speakers, which really shone when I upgraded from onboard sound to an X-Fi XtremeMusic. My friend got a 2nd-hand Audigy2-ZS and it actually doesn't sound too different. I'd also recommend an Audigy4 if you can find one.

The Audigy Value cards though, are hardly better than onboard sound. I'd rather get a high quality 2nd-hand card in good condition, than a new card with poorer audio quality

+1

The value range from creative (sub R1000 cards) use cheap chipsets and are not worth the effort, you will only really own a creative if you have a mid to high-end creative.

Edit:
If you want something below R1000 then ignore creative and look for cards that use the C-media or VIA chipsets.
e.g.

This card is a little cheaper than the Audigy value but IMHO has better quality audio
Uses the c-media chipset

Or get an m-audio(via envy chipset)
