Someone around office e-mailed us the following info, but I do not know if it is correct. Does anyone have any other refference to back up this info?

Those are pretty bad, guess they're coming in at a loss and need some income before the e nd of the financial year!

Even if it turns out to be a hoax, it may make you think twice about speeding.
if its for real, it may make you think twice about speeding.

Seems pretty reasonable to me - if you cant afford the fine dont speed. Duh

At least the ministers are still allowed to speed. Just call Zuma if you need to be somewhere in a hurry

Even you can afford the fine it's still no reason to speed.
Also very true - I have little sympathy for people complaining about avoidable fines.

Those figures seem correct. All the "cut-offs" prior to being shipped of to jail are the same as always, but the final amount payable used to be R1500 ... seems like they pushed that up to R2500

The problem most people have with speeding fines is not the punishment for those who choose to speed, but with how and why they trap for speeders.

Personally I think its criminal that they are more then happy to hide in trees etc... and pull over people doing 140 in a 120 zone while they let trucks, taxis and cars, that wouldn't pass a roadworthy test in any other country, carry on like there is nothing wrong.

I would like to see heavier fines and much better enforcement of people driving recklessly and ignoring the other rules of the road. Just spend a day driving on any major highway in JHB during peak hours and you will know exactly what I mean.

I can find nothing in any of the on-line newspapers which mention increased speeding fines. The e-mail I received mentioned 'The independant' and October therefore it should be old news. I believe it's a hoax.

How? Did they force you to speed?
Bwana, how often do you need to do long distance travel for work?

Anyone who travels a lot - outside the cities - will realise that some of the speed limits are pathetic... I've often come to long wide steches far from civilization where they expect you to sit at 80km/h.. :(

A good example in the E.C. is N2 Krags which is between Tsitsikamma and Plettenburg Bay ... a very neat road, wide enough for 4 cars abreast (even though it's only got two lanes) speed limit of 80km/h...

I'm not a great speeder, but with nowadays cars trying to sit at 80km/h for long distances is almost impossable.. these cars want to drive at 120. :D

I have no problem with speed limits, but they must be within reason and as mentioned before I want to see all the traffic laws upheld with the same determination they use on the speed laws. I can't tell you how many times I've seen ancient old cars with no working lights driving along in the middle of the night.
