New Springbok coach

Johann van Graan has been there, he has been praised as being a tactical genius.

But who the F is Mzwandile Stick?,

Stick was one of the best 7's goal kickers we had. I remember the game is 2004 Kings Park Sharks vs Cheetahs currie cup, Stick played wing and scored a 60m try. I thought he had potential but never delivered, he was a decent 7's player. As backline coach for the Boks maybe 4 or 5 years too early.

So... who wants to speculate as to who he'll make captain? Vermeulen is one choice, but many want a local captain...

Maybe Beast?

Duane is probably a good call, having worked extensively with AC at the Stormers for several years.

Best of luck to him and his coaching staff. Think they're going to need it!

EDIT: If local, then I would not be at all surprised to see a left field decision like Juan de Jongh. I say left field as he could very likely select him there. Again, he's worked with him extensively and he might feel secure going with him rather than taking a gamble on someone like Lionel Mapoe or Jesse Kriel. I think we're going to see a lot of 'huh?' selections going forward.

His appointment is utter political BS.
7's and 15 man rugby is completely different. We have much better and more promising guys that can coach the bok backline, Robbie Fleck comes to mind?

Doubt it on the count he is originally Zimbabwean.

I think Whitely would be a good choice, Duane can move to blindside.

I wish this new coaching staff well. There's some inexperience but also some experienced heads there. Hopefully they'll do well and I guess we'll have to see what players are picked and then how well the team actually performs.

This presumes that the new management will look at teams other than Province and the Sharks (or the Bulls when they play Province or the Sharks). Warren would be my choice too, but he's a Lion.

The coaching team has a EP Kings taste to it. Team Dr. Stick. Wonder how many EP Kings players will get a nod to play vs Ireland.

With Coetzee as back-line coach the 2007 Boks barely scored any tries. It was only after Jones stepped in and started to assist that we started looking formidable on attack. During his tenure at Stormers/WP, yes he made the finals and won 2 cups, but never one that mattered (Super Rugby), and they did it with brutal defense and not attacking rugby, which is why HM couldn't cut it at the World Cup. We were nowhere on attack during his tenure and we are heading the same way with AC as coach. Not looking forward to the next 4 years.

I do hope he proves me wrong...

Larkam is Australia backline coach and he is still head coach of the Brumbies. Robbie Fleck backline Coach and Ackerman Forward coach and keep them as head coach of the Stormers and Lions.

Not a bad thought. Not a bad thought at all...

He's currently employed as a backline coach by SARU for the Southern Kings.

How is it politically motivated when he's the most qualified candidate?

Because SARU said last year that the next coach will have to work within more stringent quota/transformation bollocks. Politics have no doubt played a role in the selection process. Coetzee is a decent coach but because of what has already been said by SARU I cannot see this than anything more than the most capable ''Yes, sir. How high, sir?'' being appointed.

That would be great, but that would mean he has to always start. Tough call when you've got Duane firing...

I would prick Kriel above Whitely in a Springbok setup. In my opinion the captaincy is still in the balance... and I personally do believe that a captain should reside and play in SA.
