New SuperSport Website

Is it just me, or is the SuperSport website redesign really bad?

First off, the large banner carousel that takes up the whole viewable area/page after loading.
Who's going to sit there waiting for it to rotate?
And having to scroll past it every time to get to the grid of articles to scan for news of interest just adds friction, surely no one is asking for this.

Next up, the use of both Light and Dark Modes.

It starts in Dark Mode with the header and whole-page-sized banner on top...
then you scroll and get assaulted by a Light Mode/background for Scores, Latest Videos/News (below the persistent Dark Mode header)...
then you keep scrolling to a little strip of a blue to black gradient background we can call semi Dark Mode...
then keep scrolling to Trending Videos/News with Light Mode/White background (persistent Dark Mode header still persisting)...
then keep scrolling to the Dark Mode footer.

Just leave it all Dark Mode. Or give the option to choose.

And lastly, a longer time issue from before this latest redesign, the pop-up needing to be clicked through asking if you want betting odds to be shown.
For anyone not logged into a profile, denying cookies, the pop-up has to be closed in every tab.

Edit: And as Dimpie pointed out below, no longer able to hover over the sport names to get to their sub-menus. Another significant UX downgrade with that alone.

Yep, don't like it either. I guess Canal+ need to experiment for a few months (or more ) - then we try again, hope they see feedback like this.

Hate it !!!

Can't just hover on a heading anymore to get to sub-menu ... have to click now ... then scroll over that humongous banner and then click.

...and everything is SUPER-Large ... wtf

The TV Guide on it is also so user unfriendly now. Have to click everywhere and no way to easily see at a glance what is showing where and when. Way to cock it up!

Yep, that's my worst too.
We can use the normal guide, but it doesn't show the extra SS OTT stream channels and doesn't even work at all sometimes.

Not that the old SS guide was in good shape either.

I used supersport website almost daily to check fixtures and results but they don't even have everything sport related. Now this redesign and for some reason they be shoving football down my throat on every click it starts at football. I don't want to see that sh** thanks.

The fact that you created an account on the forum just to post this, illustrates how bad the new design is.

Something I've discovered since my original complaint in the OP about the stupidly big banner carousel, mentioning how its too slow to be useful, is that they actually somehow made it simultaneously too slow and too fast.
There are times that it just doesn't change at all, and other times it changes too fast where I have to scroll back just to be able to read the full headline. And then it immediately changes again before I've had a chance to read it again... you can't even make this stuff up.
But getting rid of it entirely would be first prize for UX.

The site has been so annoying to use and its pushing me to actively look for alternates / prefer looking elsewhere for fixtures, results and news. SuperSport managed to score an own goal.

Below screenshot of the entirety of the "Motorsport" menu.

Went to look for, what I assume to be one of the most common use-cases for it, the upcoming F1 schedule.
Nope, nothing, just some news articles/videos.

A month later, it seems the hope of quick fixes to the terrible redesign was misplaced.

One improvement - looks like they're allowing even non-subscribers to access (some of?) the highlights later on again.

6 weeks later, they seem to have stuck to their decision of alternating sections of dark-mode and light-mode.
It almost feels like hostile (web)design.
Not deceptive, just downright visually assaulting to use.

And since I mentioned it a few weeks back, now that the racing season has since started, they still don't even have the F1 schedule/results published on the site... or anything other than "Videos" & "News" under the Motorsport menu for that matter.

Actually they do but it's now annoyingly under the news section. The full schedule is at "All you need to know".

That's just a one-off news article, with a nondescript clickbait headline, and the schedule is just part of that article content.

Very different to having a dedicated persistent schedule page as it is for other sports, which is what I'm referring to.

They are probably following the orders from canal minus and not working on anything new till they have it planned out. Website changes cost money

  • would like to hear their reason for this, there's surely no way its still just an oversight at this point.

• the needlessly resource intensive Carousel Banner on the home page that still remains
  • along with it also frustratingly switching almost immediately after selecting one of the dots to skip to another article headline from the carousel after its changed
  • on older machines, when a SS homepage tab is open in the background, it noticeably slows down the whole system - only the homepage with carousel banner on display, not other pages

• Dark Mode & Light Mode Combo together is clearly an actual design choice

And no Premier League Table page either, at least today. Surely none of their users are interested in that though so no worries.

The app was basically revamped to be the new website just in a app. So basically, a browser so can just as well uninstall it and today again there is nothing on....
