New Tablet Advice

Hi All,

Looking for a new tablet, iPads are awesome imo but so expensive compared to the competition.

what are thoughts on these and how do they compare to an iPad?

Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0 (wi-fi, 8gb, white)
Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 7.0 (wifi, 8gb, white)

Thx,
D3x!

Both are ok tablets, but rather have a look at the Asus MeMo 7" or Note 8". The note is coming down in price and is a really good tablet,

The Note from Game is the WiFi only version. You won't be able to make traditional voice calls with it.

I guess "duh..." sums that up nicely :o I take the it "3G" versions are voice capable. Was looking at those Asus Phonepads but surely there are other options. My Google-Fu clearly lacking finding those.

Thanks.

Any idea until when Game has the Note 8 special? I really like the Note-ish features on a tablet instead of having to always prod at the screen :P

so last time, the 2012 nexus best buy for that price range?

I played on one at incredible, very nice imo. they are selling the old one as the new one at te price of the new one from orange :/ idiots

I went with an ipad mini retina. perfect size for me and the price was attractive. I do most things on there. just power up the laptop if I need to do work. screen quality is awesome. pi$$ed you cant use the storage but got an app to load nzb's to the server so its sorted. just need a decent cover now.

Many of the cheaper tablets don't have that great a resolution. I'd go for either the LG G Pad 8.3 at R3300 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab Pro 8.4 at R4100 (both at Orange store). Great resolutions and performance. The Tab Pro seems a beast of a tablet.

if i am spending that money then surely the newer nexus 7? (2013)

Yeah that's also a great tablet. You're guaranteed future updates of Android. The cons are screen is slightly smaller and I don't think it can take expandable storage. ( and no IR if you want to use it as a remote )

Nah. You should go check the reviews on YouTube. People with both much prefer the 8.3 over the Nexus 7 2013.

I myself was considering the 8.3 over the Nexus 7...but I really wanted a 7" so I bought the ASUS :p

I sit in a similar position - I want a new tablet but not an iOS device (iPad 2 still working fine but ...meh)

So, my main requirements were that I want something smaller. Initially I looked at the new Tab 4 7" and besides them being out of stock the reviews suggest that although they are an improvement on the Tab 3's they are by no means great. Scores of like 6/10

So after a lot of reading and review watching I narrowed it down to these three:

Nexus 7 (2013) 32GB WIFI - it is great and all but the has no SD Card slot

LG Gpad 8.3 16GB WIFI - it supports SD Cards, the Optimus UI is great apparently and the hardware is better than the Nexus 7. Just not sure about the "odd" screen size

Asus MeMo 7" IPS 16GB WiFi - launched beginning of last month, it is selling for much cheaper at +- R2200 (Orange) with decent battery life. Also supports SD Cards and has new Intel chipset. Currently I am leaning towards this one

If you don't mind the SD card problem of the Nexus 7 I'd go with that..

Hmmm not so sure. Not worth the extra $$$ for what I do with a tablet. And if size wasn't an issue I'd get the LG 8.3 instead (as per above)
