So this is the full story..

Was waiting for the upgrades to roll out but was in need of internet, so went to Telkom and asked them for a 384kb line(since MWEB didn't offer line rental for the 1MBPS uncapped account). When I got to telkom, they said all new applicants will have 1MBPS from the start at normal 384k price(Was happy to hear that).

So the line was installed today and I got the uncapped MWEB account and it connects and works. The only issue is that the line is at 385k:confused: . Even though they said that it was going to be a 1mbps line. Now I gota sit on the phone with them the whole day tomorrow and try get this fixed.I used to have 384k before and this feels even slower than that.

By the way, I stay in Welevreden Park, Roodepoort, Johannesburg.

Just hang on a bit, You line will sync at 1meg once Telkom have sorted your exchange out,
Wait a week or so and see if you are upgraded

The migration of 384 to 1meg started on the 1 October, running for a 6 week period.

Your exchange might be last to be upgraded for all you know. But it will happen.....

According to Telkom, the line is suppose to be installed as a 1mbps line, not a 384k. Will call them and fight with them over it because the contract signed(month to month), states that I am on a 1mbps line, not a 384k.

Will speak to them tomorrow and see what they say and give an update. Hopefully the can just sort it out on their side and I can be surfing and streaming tomorrow night at 1mbps.

Phone Telkom and ask them to change your DSL profile to 1Mb

Just out of curiousity, my telkom internet has been down since I woke up this morning. I'm on capped, though, and 512KBps. I did download LoL but I don't think I should be over my cap. Besides, it functioned perfectly the whole of yesterday, and when we turned it on this morning it only downloaded emails (which has since stopped too). Is it possible that the current upgrades are to blame for my not being connected?

Extra info: my computer tells me my computer is connected to the net when I look at my networks.

No, telkom internet was not down. SAIX ADSL international HTTP was down. Non-HTTP, and all local traffic was working.

Please see:
-The MyBroadband Article
-The thread about the article
-The SAIX notices

The issue was partially resolved at 10h30, and fully resolved at 11h30.

(Of course, this has nothing to do with this thread)

As mentioned before you need to wait for the upgrade to happen over the next two months. If you want a faster line then you need to upgrade to a 2MB or 4/10MB line.

Throwing your toys out of the cot or wasting your weekend on the telephone is not going to make it happen faster. Anyway, Telkom does not guarantee max speed only min and currently your getting the slowest guaranteed speed for your line - read the T&Cs

Yeah, I think you right. Got the guys direct line at Telkom, so thought I just call him and ask him what is going on.

Regarding the check, the speed in running below the 384k speed, which means that I'm on a 384k line. If it was faster then 384k and was not dropping below that, then it would mean I'm on a 1mbps line.

Applied for a phone line last saturday, and this saturday my line was activated for adsl with a TI uncapped 1mb account and i am loving it. Thanks Telkom.:)

Just as an update, Spoke to my neighbor and found out our exchange was already upgraded to 1mbps. So called 10210 and spoke to a adsl technician, and he took 3 seconds to set it on their side to the correct speed. You can ask then to re-sync the line and it should do the same if available. Worked for me and within 10min, was up to the correct speed.

So if you think that you speed is wrong, call them and hope they can help.

Calm Down bro, it's not that hard.
1. Go to http://www.telkom.co.za/checkadsl/ , fill in your telephone number and if it says your exchange supports 1MBPS or higher then
2. Phone 10210 and get through to DSL technical support, then say "I want my port reset , and raise my profile speed to 1MBPS"

They will take about 1 minute and you will have to just reset your router and voila! :)
My experience wasn't all too bad with Telkom at all. I didn't have to wait long, and the lady that helped me was helpful and like I said - it took only about a minute.
