New Telkom uncapped ADSL bundle prices

Shouldn't Telkom be tha cheapest since the other telcos/ISP's use Telkom's network/infrastructure?

Telkoms share price is in the gutter. Are they even serious about turning around the company with these horrific prices.

I downgraded from 4MB to 1 MB 2 months ago, and once they upgrade my line to 2 MB, Ill downgrade it again to 1 MB. Ill end up saving about R600 bucks compared to my original 4MB line. I can still do well over a 100GB a month which is what I was doing with the 4 meg line anyway.

any idea how telkom uncapped will compare with mweb as far as shaping heavy downloaders? Needing to get a 1mb uncapped account and trying to decide who to get it through.

They just do not understand the principle of selling to more for less rather than selling to a few for more. They will only make it if they target volumes. In short, they need to do a Cell C.
Drop the compulsory line rental and I will sign up.
It's just not in me to pay for something that I don't use

While they say they _can_ shape and throttle you, they still have not done either to me and I've had the 4mb account for a while. It is just like one of their capped accounts in terms of performance. Its worth the extra money if what you value is peace of mind.

A R1000 for a poxy uncapped 4MB ADSL, no wonder we are now 3rd world.

Currently company have a 4Mb ADSL line.

What will the costs be should we want to upgrade it to a 10Mb and uncapped account? What else is involved in this? Will we need to upgrade our current router, or should it handle 10Mb as well?

You would be using the copper, and that is what the vast majority of the line rental covers.

Yesterday a table with other service providers included analogue line rental and as such was a honest reflection of the cost of internet. Tell me is LLU in any form still on the table?

How is LLU supposed to reduce the *cost* of supporting the actual copper wire to your house? It can't magically make it cheaper to replace stolen lines, replace bad copper, maintain facilities required for running the loop etc.

No. That would be anti-competitive, and all the other ISPs would bitch to ICASA, while their parent companies are free to charge whatever they like for their monopolistic services.

Unrealistic pricing! And the knobs in parliament want broadband for all.

Any chance of FTTH being rolled out soon in JHB?

last time I dealt with Telkom(about 7 years ago), they told me that I cannot get ADSL cos my 2 year old suburb has fibre lines and they do not have converters in stock for the exchange. So what is the R165 monthly ADSL charge then for?

Yesterday's table shows Openweb charge R109 and Telkom charge R219.
Can someone explain the R110 difference?

This is just for the data portion
And why is the line rental not included, it is compulsory after all
