New The PC Build Thread

Not all motherboards come with speakers anymore. Many case makers still supply them, though. Have you tried OpenRGB?
Yeah noticed that on the speakers, my B450s have speaker headers and little piezo speakers.
I've not I'll take a look at it, I'm already using Fan Control to control the fans, cause they don't have that either :).

Plus back in the day those weren't the ones we would go for. Even Asrock was a board people didn't go for.
I miss the good old Intel D865GBF (Bayfield) motherboards.. those things could last a nuclear winter

Should you want to try and have proper RGB, I see some got Maxsun boards to work as a Lian Li Uni Hub, though that is with Intel chipsets and drivers. I don't know about AMD.

Any suggestions for this build? ignore case. 2 questions please. Bit worried about the motherboard, would it be worth to spend an extra R1.5k to get the b850 model? Regarding graphics card, think i am going to hold off for a couple months. I have a 2080 super currently. Is there any compatibility issues with plugging that in the current mobo/cpu?

Decided against the 9800x3d cpu as the extra R5k i could nearly get a 5080 and also just pushes things out of my budget
How about a 1000W PSU in case the gfx card you end up getting down the line needs more than 850W?

For extension cables, that isn't a bad price, but make sure the pinouts are correct and occupied. Not all extensions are compatible with all power supplies. Some are universal, some aren't. Pictures can lie.

Though those do seem to be universal.
Yup I bought a set of those awhile back. Using the GPU extension cables split between two separate systems with different brands of PSU's. No issues at all. I didnt need the extra length but it makes it look much neater. The non modular PSU has its 6+2 attached to another 6+2 pin right next to each other on the same cable and just looks a bit silly since im only used 1 of them, the other was kind of just hanging out lol. So yeah, definitely universal

I could dream but dont see a situation where i spend that type of money on a graphics card. Got the 2080 super when i was feeling flush with pounds from working in the UK. Now spending in rands its a different story plus cards are generally more expensive.

If you do go for a 5070 Ti Super down the line, it sounds like they will have 24GB of VRAM, maybe by some miracle the pricing stays the same as the non-Supers which are set to be discontinued. Might be time for me to upgrade my 3080 10GB when the 50 series Super cards launch.

The chance that the pricing will stay the same seems pretty good. When the RTX 50 series launched, Nvidia only had access to a single GDDR7 supplier, which was Samsung. GDDR7 is expensive. Now they can also source at SK Hynix and Micron, and recently Nvidia requested Samsung to increase supply, which hints at them having bargaining power. Still, AI is dominant, and that is where the biggest allocation will be heading.

There is also a slight chance that Nvidia might drop its pricing, but it won't be by much. The rest will be up to supply and demand, which retailers love to gouge on.

All I can see AMD doing at this time is responding with Redstone, so they will be playing to mindshare.

Having 94% of the add-in board market will do that...if this was a boxing match, the ref would have stopped it by now :D

I like CES; it always sets up what to expect in the year and the years to come. CES 2026 promos have already started, and it contains one thing over and over again: "AI". CES 2023 "AI", CES 2024 "AI", CES 2025, "AI"...

Then I saw Intel dropping their "AI" PC Global Support:

Screenshot 2025-09-09 194213.png

They conducted 5 050 interviews. Those interviewed included business owners, C-suite, other directors and senior management.

AI, above all. Are these interviews organic?

Anyhow, they did add a disclaimer:

No product or component can be absolutely secure.

A bit OT, but this is what is to be expected. AI will start to play a huge role in product design and choice. Just by looking at the services industry where AI is being bulked on. Hardware with AI acceleration will start to come with a bigger premium attached.

Sapphire made its "global" announcement.

I don't know when it will be coming to our shores, but the pricing is good. Sapphire did showcase an X870/E, and that should also come along at some point.

Generally don't spend much on keyboard and mice. Don't need anything fancy, been using and an Hp keyboard with low profile keys, was pretty decent overall, keen to find out if higher profile keys will make a difference, with my fat fingers lol.

This might end up being cheap crap, but made use of the Amazon R250 app discount, so worth a try

Next month, time to sort out case fans :), then finally shown off the new build

Not badly priced at all. Though I do get the idea that Sapphire is launching globally with an introductory price to induce brand presence. I think the price might go up with newer chipset generations to come. I mean, the NITRO+ is a premium priced GPU.

Also, like Maxsun, they are using older components, but otherwise it looks good.

ended up as absolute garbage, the mouse isn't too bad, not too big an issue, using it with the back up PC.

It actually looks like the Maxsun for chipset parts
