New The PC Build Thread

Though my son now has the B550m and Eagret memory. Though I did make a bit of mess up on that board sigh. Firstly got some thermal paste on the socket had to clean that with alcohol and I partially unclipped 16gb ram
So when turning it on it was only detecting 16 was like wtaf. Luckily just clipped it properly back in to make sure it was seated properly.
Running it on the 2060 super to at least finish windows install and memory test.
Cause yeah couldn't even do that with the B580 and this new board had more settings for pci express then the old one.
 
I saw on the NAG podcast them showing the Arctic screwdriver sets, and I see a couple of local etailers stocking them. Anyone have a set, just want to know what the quality is like?

I don't need it, but I am a tool collector. Where people have gaming merchandise and stuff on display, I do it with tools. Just want to know if I am going to waste a few Rand.
 
I am interested in getting that Arctic screwdriver, but I don't know whether I will use it. So, it will be a collector's item. Some products like these are so overhyped or simply repackaged Chinese warez. Almost all tools I use are China (or Hong Kong) made, and I have never had an issue with them.

I have a ratchet set here, not Xiaomi, that is now a bit old, but it looks almost exactly like the Arctic set. The precision kit, there are a lot out there, many that are the same. Corsair had a DIY kit, and I wasn't bothered with buying one since it is the same as any other kit like it.

Never have I used electric screwdrivers in any system work.

Just curious what the quality is like, and I am not paying to get an LTT screwdriver. People might rave over it, but I am not.

It is not a new product; I have seen it on the interwebz some months ago already. It was on NAG that I heard that it is now being sold here.

I have no idea what Artic's RRP is on these tools, but they tend to be aggressive. I will say this: it is not competitively priced here, given the options. I guess it depends on the quality.

Any advice.

I am currently considering a few monitors. Would like 360Hz ideally, but don't really want to go more than about about R12k for a monitor.

The options:


That's an OLED, have never owned one so not sure how much of an issue burn-in is. I'm the kind of person that will leave a game in menu, take a phone call, then go to bed. That's my concern with OLED.

The same can be said for this:


However, this ticks the 360Hz box and it's the only reason I'm considering it.

The last option, and the one I'm leaning toward is somewhere in the middle:

My OLED TV generally puts a screensaver on if there is anything not happening for 5 minutes on the screen. The main concern of OLEDs isn't the leaving on part it's things on HUDS that could burn in, like your ammo or health bar. Though I mean they do have pixel shift and and.
Do you really need 240hz? Also ultrawide 1080 would be rather stretched out

I have the alienware oled, and I can say even compared my premuim ips monitor its just plain better. There no real comparison, oled just wins. I have not used the wootvision oled though , but guess it will be good as well. I am not huge fan of wootvision monitors due to external power brick, I prefer everything using internal power supply and work with "kettle cord".

That description is wrong it's a 1440P monitor.

Yeah the HUDs I can understand. Same with start bar on Windows etc.

I'd like at least 240 Hz as I'm currently playing games on a 144Hz 15.4" laptop screen at 1080P so a resolution and refresh rate bump would be nice.

Look oleds can look freaking amazing, especially with the blacks being black, the motion is also unrivalled as it's almost as fast as Plasma and CRTs were. Colours also seem to pop more cause of the darkness, they only aren't super great at power conservation and brightness.

9060xt is still faster, even the 8GB model and it's roughly the same price as the B580, unless you go for the Maxssun
 
Wootware sending new B580, should be arriving Friday. Which gives me the weekend to slot it in, but we're going away for a week on Monday soooo will see.
 
Been about two decades since I last built a PC for myself. Finally taking shape. Still waiting on GPU and PSU but other than that I've got what I need now.

Have not wired anything up yet except the CPU cooler's fans.

Nice.

I'm hoping to be in a similar position soon enough as well, first PC build in 15+ years.

I will ignore the NAS Server I built last year, as it doesn't count for "cool factor" :P
 
There we go Intel Arc B580 installed, rebar detected, no weirdness, no crashing :-) now to find RGB software that works with the Soyo :-)

That was weird. First time I have ever seen a hardware error message like that, and there was a signal. I am happy that the new GPU is working.
