New The PC Build Thread

Yeah I have a Coolermaster CM 690 II, reset and power buttons entirely busted, would have to resort to the same annoyance with regard to powering the PC up. But it would at least give the PC some breathing room.

I just tested the PC with a 570GTX and was already a snug fit, I do have a stock cooler, stock cooler for a 4770k is just a bad idea, Just waiting for the RX 470 to arrive today along with the screen and see how much space it takes up and take it from there, but I suspect it won't, it has a dual fan cooler. The annoyance with the 690 it is a big ass case and build like a tank and weighs as much as one too. lol

I can live without the power button/reset button, just the annoyance of the tank of case.

Just got rid of one of those, was an extremely good case, but the plastic started finally crumbling and the rubber long gone.

yeah I think fck it, will pay 600 bucks next month and get the cheapest huntkey or some other bottom mounted PSU case I can find....
This caught my eye. It is actually a pretty case, shitty airflow...but it will do
Do yourself a favour, if it's an matx board, get this one
I was pleasantly surprised by it, as I got it for my dads PC. It was actually really easy to build in, hide cables, plus it comes with 3 front fans for airflow even if it's fixed.

It's really not as bad as all that :-).
Tell that to the organisers who voted it first, second and 3rd, ugliest. The huntkey might not have good airflow, I can at least show it off at the family reunion, not have it look like it was designed, on a ship during a storm, while drinking lumpy sick....

That said I could do worse

But seriously I don't find it appealing, would constantly look over at it and regret my life choices.

Touche, it was a case for my dad with airflow so not for my use.

Nah dude just pulling your leg, also trying to stay away from glass panels, and RGB vomit comet cases. I find open cases distracting, as well as the RGB lights.

Using this for the main rig. It is sleek and minimal and doesn't look like crack whore baby. It does bring up and interesting subject of taste in cases being different. For example, the case you linked I don't like that front grill, rest of the case is fine, but that front grill annoys me.

Like that there is grommets in the ports, rarely use front panel ports, this way they stay clean, and don't have to fish out gunk from the ports, when the case gets a wipe down

Screen and GPU is here. Busy installing drivers for the GPU and then some testing to be done to make sure the GPU is fine.

The screen gamut is better than my current screen. I like that it is borderless.

Now for the notes
The stand is decent and stable, however the arm is a bit flimsy and droops the screen forward a wee bit
Screen can't be adjusted, I like my screen tilted a little back, it is raised up high enough, so it shouldn't pose a problem.
It is a bit shiny and reflective, so will need to see how it fares with glare and stuff. There is none on the current screen, I prefer it dark in my office so will see if it makes a difference.

Pretty happy with it overall, need to play around with it some more and see how it does, with ghosting and such, then I will consider swapping it around with my main screen. The warmer and better color gamut has me sold already.

That is me for this upgrade cycle then, see you in 10 Years !!!!!! lol

OH FFS !! Just my luck, the RX470 only has DVI out, so had to use a DVI to HDMI convertor, as such I am stuck on 60hz, just perfect. Monitor does have freesync, so it ain't all bad. But weird nowhere on the website does it say it has freesync, oh well. Had some niggles with GPU had to update the bios first. The fan curve of the card is insane, goes to 100% fan speed at 61 degrees, when loaded, and for some reason fan spin down takes ages.

So will need to address that. Tried a few games to make sure, no stuttering or artifacts. Runs butter smooth, actually pleasantly surprised it is quite the capable card.

Idle temps are a bit high and temps spikes a bit fast, so a repaste is in order. But finally have my second rig up and running.

Yeah these mining cards had weird fan curve by default, just flash msi Armour bios on it. Just make sure flash one with the right memory on it

Yeah I did. Still had the under volted bios on it. Seller forgot if he flashed it back, I will just edit the fan curve via after burner.
Mining card
Yip, but it is spotless, and I put it through its paces and rock solid. It is always something that annoys me. Mining people look after their hardware and temps, it is the gamers you need to watch out for. If it hasn't failed by now, it isn't unlikely to fail anytime soon. Should get enough out of it, by that time 20XX or 30XX will have dropped to more reasonable secondhand prices.

Honestly it is better that getting a shitty 1030 or 730 or some or other piece of garbage.

Bought a Thermalright peerless assassin se, patriot 32GB 3600mhz RAM and a Ryzen 3600 with ebucks recently.
The thermalright and 3600mhz memory went into my sons pc which has the 5700x3d replacing an old raidmax AC1200. This thermalright is bigger than my ID Cooling A620, doesn't look as sleek though, especially since the fan is now a bit higher for ram clearance.
Plus it just just clears the Antec AX85 case. His pc is definitely quite a nice little beast now

So I think the 5070Ti I bought is faulty. Basically, started crashing in Red Dead 2. Sometimes to desktop, sometimes black screen that needs a forced restart, and sometimes just straight up restarts the PC.

CPU and memory pass their stress tests. 3D Mark stress tests (Speedway and Port Royal) have sometimes passed, and other times also crashes the PC entirely.

I bought it 25 days ago from Evetech, and am really worried they do one test it passes and send it back to me. I know they are notoriously bad with RMA. I just cant see it being anything else.

Check power cable they send be culpurt if they too right can even start to burn. 12v cable can be very full of nonsense. Evetech rma is actually quicker than wootware now
