I have owned maybe three or so AMD systems in my entire life. A bunch of Pentium 4 systems. The Pentium 4 series lasted from 2000 to 2007, so had them all, both in socket 478 and later LGA 775. Still have a fully working Pentium 4 HP Compaq, with original screen and mouse and keyboard.

Still have a working 21 inch CRT, monitor. As of late there seems to be some resurgence of the monitor for retro builds. With new in box top of line screens going as much as 13 grand. Should be able to get a pretty penny, with the right buyer, it was one of the fancier ones with 75hz displays.

As a side business, I used to buy and sell refurb, pentium 1 and 2 back in the 1990's. That allowed me to buy my first Pentium 4 system.

Lol well versed in PC hardware, it is only the last 9 generations of intel that I skipped as I had no reason to upgrade.

Shuslaaik! I also used that 2500k for many years, and it was just permanently overclocked. Best CPU I have ever owned. My CPU list is tiny! They tended to last way longer than my GPU's for gaming. I have also never had a CPU or GPU die (Thank god the last weeks was a false alarm lol!)

Have you sold this guy already? I tried desperately to find one but just couldnt :( Also remember that 6600GT GPU being a massive one back in the day. AMD 3200+ was their last good mainstream Gaming CPU before Intel made the Core 2's and bossed for years until Ryzen came.

It's in my sons PC right now. Nah there was the Phenoms which went toe to toe with the Core 2s, it was only when the I series came that AMD started struggling, but even the first gen I series had the Phenom IIs to still contend with.
I also forgot I had an AMD Black Edition 7750 that was stolen with the 8800gt.
The 6600GT was a pretty decent card, but the real beasty was that 8800GT almost flagship but not quite.

All of my PCs were cash purchases, never made a single debt, building a PC, it wasn't always the latest nor the fastest. Would upgrade to the latest platform with bare min hardware and slowly build it up, rinse wash and repeat.

I dabbled a lot in the secondhand market, buying parts to use some of the parts for my own build, resell the left over or build a system from the parts and sell that.

With the exception of getting a new or secondhand GPU in the next few months, and a secondhand CPU upgrade end of next year, when DDR5 sticks are much cheaper, I will consider getting 32gig sticks. I am not upgrading or buying anything major hardware related for the next 5 years.

Only thing that I usually get in that time, mice, keyboards and mouse pads, headphones. I am actually due for a new full desk pad.

This upgrade cycle this year was a shyte one as it was a complete build.

It is possibly there to dissuade people from using lower-rated PSUs. Then there are people who incorrectly connect their PSU to their GPU. Follow the PSU manual for the correct guideline.

P4 Celerons weren't that bad for the time, XP just released and weren't the hungry beasts they are today, a lot of games weren't that heavy either. Remember playing the EA sports games. Like Tiger Woods, handled CS 1.6 and 99% of the games released during the time. Battle for middle earth 1 and 2 ran fine even warcraft. My friends were all on Athlon CPUs at the time.

Compared to now, celerons sucks, back then P4 celerons weren't as nerfed as they are now. I would agree early celerons did suck, but celerons on prescott upped the cache and such.Back then it was only 2 tiers celerons and pentium, later intel added intel extreme to the list.

I have fond memories of P4 days. Will die on that hill. Come at me, bro :D

Mine was a Netburst arch Celeron.

It sucked bad. But yeah, fond times of playing UT2004, Quake III and CS 1.6 on that horrible chip.

UT2004, nah brother OG or GTFO.....That was peak and still is peak, later ones weren't as good. The mods for the OG were awesome, bots weren't great.Lost generation that



And fck you just loaded up my copy still works under windows 11 guess what I am playing before bed.....

UT 2003 and 2004 were epic, we litreally played the demo on lan for months. This and AVP2 was peak gaming in my youth!
 
When you watch overseas guys picking up rx580s and 1660s for like 20 to 30 pound

Yeah, I men cpu pricing isn't so bad, gpu on the other hand like wtaf. Got a Ryzen 5 3600 brand new for R1300, you'd think I could get 5/6 year old gpu for that price?? Even a mid tier?? Nooo
