New The PC Build Thread

Thanks, that's really annoying, hopefully things will settle down next year when I want to upgrade.
Don't upgrade before AMD's new chips are out (late 2026 - early 2027).

Personally I'm on cruise-control, not going to do anything until then. Hardly even browsing PCMR these days.

I saw there was some talk about the possible launch of the new 9950X3D2 chip in Q1 so I will gladly wait for that, it could be an epic cpu 😬 the price will probably be pretty scary.

Remember the 2011's harddrive shortage, due to natural disasters, prices were 70% more for a good while.
Yeah I do, shortly after I dropped off the game for a few years thanks to having a kid and him taking my office. I mean really

I would not mind a new lappy.
To play the same tower defense on, eish.

Do you not find PC's too "fixed"?

What have you got at the moment?

I have a friend up in JHB selling his gaming laptop, can forward you the details if you are interested.

Think it's a Lenovo Legion 5 15ACH6 IIRC so not sure if it would be something you would be interested in though.

As for the 'fixed' bit, I tried out handheld gaming and it just felt...not right. I guess it didn't suit my lifestyle as I never find myself in a place where I am thinking 'hmmm, if only I had a gaming PC here with a smaller screen and an integrated controller'. But I understand that not everyone is like that and will have different views/requirements.

How good are Amazon Black Friday deals on higher end graphics cards typically? I'm thinking 9070 XT / 5070 Ti type performance is what I would want. Currently on a ZOTAC 5070 Ti the saving is only about R1500.

Is it worth the risk ordering such an expensive item to be shipped over here hoping no RMA will be required?

I think my problem lies with having to do support so even if I go desktop again I still need a laptop.

They ok, but cpus some really good deals. Prices of cards probably go up again due to insane prices of nand chips right now. Memory prices are almost going up daily

DDR4 especially, I bought RAM from Takealot for R1700 a week later R2300 now a week after that R2429, looking at wootware the ripjaw 3200mts sticks are insanely high now. In June I paid R2199 for Mushkin redline 32GB 6000mts now the cheapest 32GB is 2699?

Supplier pricing vipersteel 3600mhz 2x8gb is R2100 lol

Keeping in mind this is not a new batch of stock, they had this stock already.
