New The PC Build Thread

Now I just need to find a cheap A320 or B350 board for a 1600AF and 16GB RAM I still have laying around, plus a cheapy GPU.

If two boards don't see it, from different chipsets there is an issue with the RAM.
For the B580 I sent back I tested it in three machines, luckily I had 3 other machines laying around as I was building one for my niece and my dad. At one point my study looked like well what it would've looked like when I was 15, PC parts laying all over the place, power supplies, cases, motherboards, the foam for me to rest the mobo on so I could test outside the case. Thermal paste somehow everywhere :-(
Yeah man it sucks. This is now the second kit of G Skill RAM I have bought that died within the first month of use, or turned out faulty. Needless to say I don't think I will ever buy G Skill RAM again. Im chatting to Woot and will hopefully be able to ship it back to them today.

I also tried to buy another set of Vengeance RAM from Rebeltech they had on their site, and then they eventually told me there's no stock, so now it's trying to get a refund there as well. Jirre what a mission lol.

Both AEGIS RAM or other G-Skill, I've used Trident Z and Ripjaws without any issue. Currently using Patriot and Teamgroup as the pricing was good.
My dads machine is using EAGRET from Temu so will see the overall length of time it lasts.

One Kit was RIPJAWS, and now this kit which is AEGIS :(. I have never had an issue with any other RAM before, and have gamed on PC since 2007.

Odd, maybe they just had some bad batches.

Yeah just bum luck I think. I wanted those Trident Z's so bad but they were so pricey back then. I cannot believe all the DDR4 RAM is now 3.5K and up. Basically doubled in price since I bought it a month ago. Frikkin crazy. The irony is, in 2018 when I originally bought the PC, the RAM was 2999 for 16GB (Think it was a SAMSUNG dye issue or something like that back then that shot prices up), so I couldnt afford 32GB. Now its gone almost the same route lol.

Yeah seems to be a luck of the draw with buying the RAM as well. I mean I managed to get 32GB, 1 DDR5 kit for R2k, 1 DDR4 kit for R1200 and another DDR4 kit for R1600. Now looking at the price it's like wtaf, same as SSD prices that are jumping, but those always seem to do it.

My ram kit has gone up double, 4k for a 32gig kit :(. Want to try and see if I can't squeeze in a GPU upgrade before the shyte hits the fan there as well. Super glad I went with 32gig, everything is just so much smoother in general.

I am still very happy with my system...

Same here. Glad I did a spring-clean so now I don't have to worry. I'm just going to ride it out until early 2027.

Want a Super next year but if RAM prices are still ****ed by then I'll pass on that as well. Plan was to sell current card and top-up R2k-R5k. There's no way I'm going to top-up R5k-R10k for a little more RAM. I'd rather pass.

So SA distributors, listen up now or eat a dick.

The fact that we struggle to get decently priced second hand cards as well :-(. I mean rest of the world RX580s are going for chips, here people are still expecting R2k?

Yeah, we always get the short end of the stick.

Was browsing reddit last night US RAM prices looks like this : $170-$210 / $200-$250 and they are complaining.

Our local PC market is a joke.

Distributors and retailers. They are all *****.

Always been the case sadly, though it was slightly better in the 2000s when the ROE wasn't so high. I mean you could parts for reasonable prices.

Ja look Im still super happy with my PC, just the blerrie RAM lol. PC's last a bit longer these days than back in mid 2000's at least. You reckon GPU's are also gonna sky rocket?

Yes also uses memory, both AMD and Nvidia mentioned prices are going up in Jan.

Should be noted it, isn't just memory that has gone to shyte, it is everything, that has, ram, nand, flash memory, dram is going up in price as well as severe stock shortages, related to ram, there is some stuff that won't be in stock or restocking or simply manufacturing time frame of a year. Yes you heard that correctly, some stuff has a timeframe of a year.

Intel CPU's is drying up, some suppliers don't have stock and won't have for several months.

If you think ram and related products is expensive wait a bit it is going up again, with another 60% at least. Don't expect the prices to come down or stock to improve anytime soon.

If you can afford to upgrade now, do it now, even with it being as expensive as it is now it is going to double again.

If you aren't on a DDR5 platform you're fcked price wise for the next 2 at min years.

Secondhand.......good fcking luck, with that, I have already seen price increases there as well.

Yeah and I've got 3 AM4 machines floating around, luckily all 3 of them are on 32GB now. Myself I moved over to AM5 end of July and it wasn't really much faster than my 5700x3d. But wasn't paying the premium again for a x3d chip.

Problem now, with intel running out of consumer chips, and being, well.......... slower than AMD. AMD is running into stock shortages as well on some chips, so in 3 months or so AMD is going to be in the same boat as everyone else.

Both AMD and intel prices has gone up with 10% in the previous month, expect another increase, it is unlikely that AMD will be cutting prices on most chips and more likely to stay the same, with more popular chips likely to see increases. AMD 5000 series chips has seen increases of between 5 and 20 dollars.

Better get some lube and bend over as far as you can. I expect this thread to be barren for a while, with posts like " hey I upgraded my psu cables "

Yeah this will probably dry up a bit, but you'll get some guys wanting the super series or if AMD ever does put out a 9090xt or whatever

I am upgrading my drives next week, case can wait some more, I have two drives that are getting flaky, that needs to be replaced ASAP. I am going with refurb/re-certified drives to save a buck, rather replace all of them, use the drives that aren't flaky for offline storage backup.

Will have triple back ups, cloud, online and offline......

Not a bad plan, cause those are going up as well. I mean at the beginning of the year replacing a spinny disk with an SSD of the same size made sense, now spinnys are cheaper again.

Some of my drives are nearly 15 years old, didn't upgrade last time due to prices, waited too long, now I have to fork out a bunch for that.
