New The PC Build Thread

Those Antecs are poo, to be honest - very noisy for the airflow they have. I'm seen better at East Rand Traders (a local China-town).
Good thing I went the Thermalright route then - also, kudos to you and your team for the speedy shipment, I see it's already on the move

Hilariously, at 17:36 the courier arrived with an empty truck - he's starting the next collection round. I think it's going to be a frustrating night for him, given most companies will be closed...

I think the drivers are under a lot of stress at this time of the year.

I sent a parcel to a neighbouring town and it looks like the box got a tear in it - no biggie, the items in there were undamaged but a smaller item (SD card) fell out and is probably out exploring some rural EC town road or has been swept under a pile of sorting machinery at one of their depots by now

I had that with a cable from takealot. The box was damaged, no charging cable. Takealot wouldn't take it back cause that cable was missing.

I had the exact opposite. Returned something, but forgot the Micro-USB charging cable. But the return was concluded successfully.

Felt pretty bad about it but logistically it probably wouldn't have made sense to ship a R10 cable up to them.

Think it might be up to the 3rd party cause yeah they were full of s for mine :(

This will pair well with 128GB DDR5-6000,

One of the two rumored X3D CPUs appears on AMD website

This will prbably be ‘the one to get’.

In a surprising move, AMD has just listed the Ryzen 7 9850X3D CPU on its driver website. The update was spotted by dataminer Olrak29, who noticed the SKU name on AMD’s French driver website. Apparently, the 9850X3D is already listed there.

I assume a higher sample 9800X3D?

Don't expect a so-called X3D2 processor. AMD would have to make some architectural changes to make that even viable, so maybe with Zen 7. I don't see those traces getting better with Zen 7, but it is possible. I also am amused by how badly the consumer market wants this when it will be P expensive. Bundle that combo with RAM, and yeah... stupid. For semi-pro use, sure, but then you aren't building a gaming PC.

Some people think Intel is about to strike back, too... dunno. They are making rapid changes now with their new-generation CPUs. Somehow they need to tame the heat, so to speak; otherwise, value isn't even relevant. We will see.

The colouring has been through several iterations over the years. You mentioned black on yellow so you must've seen the first form a good number of years back.

Black on yellow - people missed it
Red on yellow - people missed it
White on dark blue - people missed it
White on red - people missed it
Magenta on cyan - people missed it
AAAARGH GEEEE BEEEE - people find it annoying, but they notice it

Be me
Receive a mail on a long weekend
Receive another mail later that day asking why we're not replying
Sigh to myself and send an reply, pointing out the banner (which used to be slightly bigger, but not RGB) saying we're closed
"Oh, I didn't see that, my bad, enjoy the time off"

The banner is seldom there, really just August (birthday month), Black November, and December closing days.
@Rayne this weekend there were no less than 27 queries (possibly more, I'm not sure I counted all), "Will you be running Black Friday specials?" or "Where can I find your Black Friday specials?"

I think after I asked for the 27th time I gave up, since you didn't want to reply to me :(

AMD is reportedly raising the prices of its CPUs, just months after admitting it charges more than its competitors

Prepare to pay more.

It seems like it's only going to get harder to put together a gaming PC for a decent price in coming months, as reports suggest AMD will be increasing the cost of its CPUs.

According to a report from Overclock3D citing "industry sources", AMD is reportedly looking to raise prices on its 9000-series CPUs, as well as "AMD's older products".

OC3D claimed yesterday that the price hike will happen on the night of December 1, though we are unlikely to see the results of any such hike until the cost is pushed onto the buyer.

This is not a new "reportedly" rumor. About two weeks ago, it was said that AMD would raise its pricing of its CPUs by up to 10%, or something like that. I can't remember. The times aren't good. The new 9850X3D might be near the price of a currently priced 9900X3D (which will also increase), if not more.

I really don't like that the PC is becoming ever more inaccessible to mainstream users. If things don't change, having a PC will depend on winning a lottery in the future.

Now, if AMD is raising its prices, its competition will most likely do so too, if not already. I do hope that things change.

They have to squeeze the people left who are buying - articles on a few sites today saying DIY motherboard sales are plummeting because people aren't willing to pay the AI-inflated prices for DRAM (and NAND's heading that way too).

Looks well put together. You can probably save a bit if you go Intel i7 but not sure if you are an AMD guy.
The performance of the 9800X3D is a bit unmatched right now for gaming, especially for something like Escape From Tarkov which is very CPU heavy. My current CPU is an Intel i7-7700K, and this will be my first AMD CPU so this would be a huge upgrade.

Nice build.

I bought the Zotac because it's 2 slot but of course if you don't mind big GPU's then 3 slots are fine.

EDIT : Forgot to mention add 3x fans (1x back 2x top).

Yeah I would rather have better airflow in the card, also a bit cheaper. :)

120mm fans? Which ones would you recommend?
120's will do fine but the you can also put 2x 140's on top if you want.

Any decent fan will do really depends on you whether you want ARBB or not.
