New The PC Build Thread

Not a "new" build, but due to RAM prices, I am trying to squeeze another year or two out of my AM4 PC. So, I bought the 5800x3D 10th Anniversary Edition, which should arrive today. Moving from a 3600 non-X, I should see a bit of a performance boost (as I'm being CPU limited at the moment).

Next up, I will have to look at getting a 32GB DDR4-3600 Dual channel kit, then a GPU upgrade.

The RAMpocolypse is really screwing up our hobby.
 
It's going to be a tough few years, it's why I upgraded to an S26 Ultra with 512gb last week, tapped into savings to get it, as my S23Ultra is 3 years old now.

Just an update. In BF6 I suddenly had an additional 30-40 fps, going from barely 60 fps to close to and sometimes hitting 100 fps.
 
Morning! So Ive gotten myself some RAM and a MSI B650 motherboard, now I need to decide whether Im going with the 7500x3d or the 7800x3d. Ill use my ancient GTX1060 6GB for a while until I find a better card, but it will ten to one be an Arc B580 or GTX 5060.

From what I can see the 7800x3d is about R2500 more but I wont get much more benefit seeing that Ill be popping in a cheaper card.

Thoughts?

Yeah 7800x3d super cheap atm for price for performance, oem chips dropping below 6k now.

Problem is ddr5 ram price lol

Yeah it is super cheap, I would need to upgrade to the 9800x3d though, as my 9700x is fine, sure it's about 11% slower for some gaming.

Its still stupidly expensive, but I found 16GB Crucial 6400 DDR5 RAM at esquire for R3800. Maybe this help someone ;)
 
Question on GPUs. Budget is about R10000 Im looking at getting a replacement for my 1060 6GB. Now the Intel Arc B580 12 GB looks very good but I see Intel killed future developments and will focus on onboard graphics. Is it still worth getting one?

Im also looking at the Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB or RX9060 xt 16GB which are similarly priced. The Nvidia 5060 also looks good, but I would prefer AMD Radeon because I want to try steam OS.

The Intel card is obviously much more budget friendly but Im douting whether its really future proof.

Any suggestions/thoughts? I dont see things improving WRT RAM soon so I dont think waiting will help much

Intel cards need have newish platform like am5 to get best our out of it and with prices.of ddr5 it might not be worth it. Il rather go 9060xt 16gb

The 9070GRE is ~25% faster than the 9060 XT 16GB at rasterization in 1440P. It is technically a better card than the 9060XT even though it has less VRAM.

I went from a 1070ti to the 9060 XT. I'd definitely go for the 9060 if I were you

For now I would avoid Intel GPUs until they get the business unit back on track. The DRAM situation isn't helping Intel, and they have clearly made a strong pivot towards mobility. Driver support might become an issue, more so day-1 support, but Intel is keeping up with the latest API demands.

Considering the options. For our region, Nvidia tends to be more expensive, so pick between the RX 9070 GRE or RX 9060 XT (16GB). The GRE is the better GPU, but say you intend to do some AI workloads then I would opt to go 16GB. AMD is improving their driver stack with new technologies, but when it will trickle into production level I won't know, but we could soon see reduced VRAM usage accross the board with the new neural rendering techniques. For gaming the GRE is the better option.

Solid choice although i missed which CPU and platform you are on, if AM4 and lower than 5700x, the GRE might not be the right combo as the 9060xt 16gb would be more appropriate. If on AM5 the GRE is the go to although the 12gb ram will bite in a few years.

or get the GRE and upgrade the rest later when needed really depends on the price of the card at this point.

heck still rocking a 7900xt and its doing well after 3 years. but you right on the VRAm the way these games are hogging the memory 10/12gb min these days.
