New to DSLR

I've disabled P mode for now - I'm just not ready for it yet. Baby steps.

I mostly shoot in TeleVision mode because like most photographers I harbour a secret desire to one day shoot video and shooting in TV should help prepare me for that.

should use AV. That way you can get both audio and video.

Thanks for that. I read up a bit about the mirrorless, I still think the DSLR is more versatile and cheaper. The price of the few lenses available for mirrorless seem higher than DSLR. My budget is at it's limit.
Forget the lenses. Get an adapter and use regular lenses. I don't think the exclusive lenses thing will last especially if they're going to win over DSLR users. Regular lenses however will continue to be there with the adapters so much less of a gamble.

On a serious note, the issue with P mode is that you pretty much have to be taking pics full time to use it effectively - for an occasional photog like myself, there is no way I'll never remember all the intricacies of the setup for each different situation.

I've read a lot of books, been on a couple of courses, practiced a lot, but the reality is that without constantly using what you learn, you forget.
Not at all. P stands for programmable actually. It's a bridge mode between full on auto and letting you adjust settings while still letting the camera take care of most of the work. Using Av and Tv unless you absolutely need a specific effect just makes you mess up like I did. I still have to break the news that the pics I took look as dark as those taken by a voyeur at a convention for the blind and now need to go through processing. Oops. Luckily I also capture in RAW.

[XC] Oj101 is a real photographer - if he idolises Ken "This is the last camera you'll ever need" Rockwell then you'd be best served to do so too. Capisce?

.

I still cannot afford R14K for a body alone. (Fujifilm X-T1 mirrorless)

I've decided to wait another month and spring for:

Canon EOS 750D DSLR with EF-S 18-55mm IS STM Lens
Orms: R8,995.00

Nice, was my choice before deciding to go with mirrorless.

Let me know if you'd like a demo though. Will be in your area soon.
