These boxes can be enabled as IPTV STB's. That's what the ethernet port is for.

so does that mean you can connect it to your pc and watch content from your pc on your tv?
soz for the noob q.

Here is a more detailed comparison
Pics:

As you can see the UEC is slightly longer then the Pace

Some differences:
UEC processor is slightly faster, the overall performance & remote response is a little quicker
SatCR port is LNB 2, Pace has it on LNB 1. Makes no difference to anything though
HDCP problems, the UEC has not given me any, the Pace does sometimes when changing sources
RF output, UEC has a much better RF output
Boot up time on UEC is half the time of the Pace
Video stutter, this is the only real downside of the UEC. It occurs during playback & in the buffer. After fast forwarding the video freezes for a split second & the audio goes out of sync before it corrects itself about 5 seconds later. Small issue but quite irritating

There were a few other once off issues so at the moment I still prefer the Pace

So why do you still prefer the Pace, as in your comparison above the UEC the gives better performance.

With all the ***** the Pace is giving, the UEC is clearly the better buy. All the Pace issues is not due to software only.

Mainly the video stuttering, BUT I only noted the differences, other little bugs & issues on the Pace are also present on the UEC

sports an S-Video port which is not available on its competitor
You're kidding, right? Yea, I want to spend R2999 for the cutting edge HIGH DEFINITION satellite PVR so that I can output it to my 80s Telefunken.

MultiChoice has previously revealed plans to launch a more affordable, ‘entry level’ HD PVR, but the company said that there is currently no planned launch date or pricing available for this device.
Thank goodness. Can you imagine how they'd cock something up that costs less?

Hey, I have an 80's Telefunken. :p

Remember that not all of us have HD TV's just yet. Many of us will simply buy this for the PVR functionality.

so these geniuses sat in a room and decided that they will make a decoder locally and then sell it at the same price as the one they're importing??

did i miss something??

Both are imported from the East...

They did it for redundancy. Was required for Naspers to list on the NYSE. Cheaper HDPVR still coming.

The UEC HDPVR is built in at the UEC factory in Durban.

Really? I made an assumption when I said that. I knew the 1110 was manufactured in the East and the upcoming MC IPTV STB. I assumed all their manufacturing was moved abroad... So they still have the plant in Durban?

@ the same price as the PACE decoder many will go for that one, seeing that most of the bugs have been ironed out.

UEC moved some, not all of their production, to the East, and they pulled some back too. Plus they outsource locally too.

Am sure many bugs lurk in the UEC variant too.

I was told that it is more stable than the pace, I can't give you any proof on that, but I have a good source!

Stable how? I have had at least 3 spontaneous reboots on the UEC, the Pace only once in a while reboots when giving it commands
Recording reliability is the same with no issues experienced

I have no idea, was told that in certian things it was more stable.. I have the pace anyway, couldn't wait anymore for HD!!! So I eventually bought mine 3 months ago.... Besides, still has the same multichoice cr@pware!

Have you had any freezes?? I have had to power down my Pace at least one every 2 to 3 weeks! Seems to get less responsive over a period of time...

TBH... I think the Pace is a great piece of hardware.... its the MC software thats up to maggots...

I have not had the best experience with UEC equipment, but I'll withhold judgement on the UEC decoder for awhile...
