New virus on the rise?

My sister's pc started getting DRIVE NOT READY errors after inserting an iPod belonging to her boyfriend into the PC. It turns out her boyfriend's pc is also having issues with cnvfatdll.exe giving crap.

I see only 2 hits on Google all from December 2007 which gives me the idea that this may be a virus outbreak.
 
wow... i wish I could make a virus... make it so that the pc has a 3 month incubation period... at which it copies it's self everywhere, then the bad boy would destroy the pc :P mwaha ha ha
 
Well, I recently lost my 200gig Sata. Had to go buy a new one. Now my one partition on my 80 gig also crapped out. All the NTFS partitions that crapped out had their master file table corrupted. They detect perfectly in the bios but wont boot at all. Not even when set as a slave. I still have both hard drives in my cupboard. I suspected a new virus. My cousin also lost his drive recently with the same symptoms.

Now to find a cure. If anyone know something, please post it.
 
A virus can can break physical bits of a PC?
 
Wow, I haven't had a virus for like... ever. Yay = AVG :)

It may not be a virus. Seagate drives love doing that.

Get DBAN from dban.sourceforge.net and run it on the drives then create new partitions on it once its done. Using 1 pass of the zero method will be good enough.

Be sure to unplug your working drives before running this app just to be safe.

geez thats hectic. Have never seen it happen and hopefully never will :o *close eyes and hold thumbs*
