So, with the Seacom cable online is there any point in signing a new 24-month data bundle contract with Vodacom? Should people wait until the price for a MyMeg bundle drops significantly?

I would wait a little. Or buy a modem and go prepaid, prepaid helps you avoid monster bills and gives you more flexibility.

Hi

I would go prepaid so am not locked down to a 24 month contract and have the freedom of buying what i need when i want it.

Hi
I went for the Topup 315 contract which included a free B970 router.
This allows me the freedom to convert airtime to data and at the quantity and rate I need. Normally I pay in a few bucks and get a 2gb bundle @ R389. This works out at 19c per mb which is fair at this point in time.
VC is the best ISP for my needs at the moment.
I can also "bank" my airtime up to a max of 5 months as against a max of up to 60 days on data.
So this way also gives me flexibility with VC

I've always understood it that if prics drop, the guys with a contract drop to?

It's not guaranteed.

Lets say MTN drops their prices by 50%, then one can move over to MTN if you are on pre-paid. If you have a contract, you are stuck with one service provider.

Bleh!!!!

I am so sick of hearing about Seacom now and reading today a article about the wonder that is Seacom and how prices are going to drop etc...then the next day I read another one of how its actually now been revealed that its not going to really have a impact on prices and so it goes on and on and on. Blah blah blah and more blah!

LETS START GETTING INFO NOW ON WACS! Vodacom a nice juicy shareholder in this cable not true? VodacomData....you going to give us a apn on the WACS cable where we can watch free p@rn? hahahah (kidding) :)

Still a long way to go for completion in 2011.

Ag nee!!! I could have sworn I read it was due for completion in mid to end 2010? Or was that Eassy or was that the World One cable? Cant keep up anymore! hehe.

Oh well guess we will be reading lots of the old Seacom stories for a while to come though. Dont mean to sound pessimistic but boy...it sure is going around in circles. Thats why I would love to hear something now on the WACS or other cables.

Anyway, thanks for the update on that VD

PS: This Infraco stories also seem promising. Wonder how that would play a role when it comes to for example Vodacom, MTN and Cell and if they would make use of them.
